Faith, Medicine or ZMapp? What Cured The Ebola Patients?
NBC News ^ | 10/05/14

Posted on 10/05/2014 4:58:05 PM PDT by BunnySlippers

The doctors who treated them have another idea and they think what they’ve learned can save Ebola patients in Africa. What almost killed Brantly, they say, were irregular heart rhythms caused by what’s called electrolyte imbalance — the loss of minerals because of his constant, unending diarrhea.

“The closest infectious disease we can compare it to is cholera,” Dr. Bruce Ribner, who heads the special containment unit at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta where Writebol and Brantly were treated, told NBC News.

As with cholera, the constant vomiting and diarrhea pull all the fluids from the body, and with them sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium — the so-called electrolytes that help the cells in organs such as the heart, brain and kidneys to function.

zmapp was experimental, and it’s all been used up. i’m sure they don’t care about facts.

The patients also received serum from previous survivors that contained ebola antibodies. I think this might be the best treatment. So hard to say if it was the Z-MAP or not

The one from the Israeli paper that Duncan died is not true.

But he is close to death.

electrolytes will help the heart but if all your blood vessels turn into virus factories you are basically dead. In Duncan's case they are probably giving him massive transfusions to postpone the inevitable.

The only other possible good thing about electrolytes is that the ions will tend to kill viruses. There is decent supporting science for taking copper, zinc, iron or other metals to produce ions to kill flu and other viruses. Silver, lead, mercury, etc, work too but those will also kill you. The nontoxic metals are also toxic in higher quantities. There are no silver bullets so to speak.

I read it on Drudge first thing this morning when I woke up.

Hadn’t seem anything else to dispute the info.

Since when does NBC give any credence to faith or faith medicine?

Precisely. Which is also the factor which will dominate the treatment from a public health (Obamacare)aspect. Morphine and a cardiotxin will be the treatment authorized by the death panels.

Insurance companies can't cope with this. 100 cases would bankrupt them if treated and isolated correctly. It's a Cloward-Piven strategy to effect social change.

Only one paper carried it. I confess, I don’t know anymore ... The hospital says he’s alive.

Are you kidding? Original (don’t know what they call it anymore, they keep changing the damn labels) orange and fruit punch are good. G2 Grape (less sodium, more sugar) is GREAT. I don’t like lemon so any of those I will not vouch for. There are some green flavor a that are bad, can’t remember which.

I don’t think we have anymore ZMapp - well, probably enough for Obama and his family - and it takes time and lots of money to produce more.

I’d say people recover because of combination of factors, with Westerners no doubt being healthier to start with and also more logical and sensible in their response to the disease. That said, there really aren’t enough cases to compare, although Obama clearly hopes to change that...

I live in Florida, home of Gator AId, and I have always hated it. But recently they came out with some great “tropical” flavors, such as mango, melon and even cucumber-lime. They’re great! Not too sweet and very light and refreshing.

I’m not sure they’re available everywhere, though.

Some blue are not so great. I don’t mind many blues, but most are sort of dull. I have tried a few between exercise and colonoscopies/surgery. I picked a green that was awful with the clearing stuff they gave me and the mere fact I was about water-logged.

You should test all non-red flavors to be ready for a scope. Likely you will have to have some Gatorade of blue or green to prep. Best to know what you like or is OK for that time rather than guessing when time is up!

I hate the flavor of Gatorade but I have many problems with leg cramps. Maybe I should try.
