Sears Holdings Corp. said Friday that its Kmart stores were hit with a data breach that compromised some shoppers' debit and credit card information.
The company is working with federal authorities and security experts to investigate the matter. The Secret Service confirmed Friday evening that it is investigating the data breach.
The investigation indicates that the breach occurred in early September and did not affect kmart.com customers, the statement said.

Best not to have any store credit cards these days....and pay for everything with cash when you shop. I’ve determined to do that.
BTW Sears venders are pulling out one by one as the company looks more and more like it’s about to fold. Not good just before Christmas!
Hasn’t poor KMart suffered enough? Where’s the “leave KMart alone” girl?
I’d say I’m more likely to be robbed of cash than credit card fraud. I’ve had excellent responses from both Discover and Visa when fraudsters attempted purchases, they got stopped immediately and I was informed right away.
Does Kmart even exist anymore?
Why do they insist on keeping that information. Should be destroyed when the return period is over.
Has Obie been doing a ot of shopping at the local KMART?
the...Secret Service...was as I thought I understood it... untended soley to provide protection for the POTUS?
What’s the deal with Eddie Lampert...he seems to keep throwing good money after bad. Is it ego or is there some hidden benefits he’s getting from riding this dead horse into the ground?
I stopped going to stores and stopped using credit cards unless it’s a dire emergency ....
Too many nasty creepy cooties, pushy rude foreigners babbling in foreign languages, greedy prices, angry employees, crazy nutcakes and assorted kinky dings.
Scary depressing places...
That’s the Blue Light Special I can believe in!
Even if they steal and max out all your cards, you don’t owe a dime and your balance is restored the next day.
If a thief steals your wad of cash, good luck getting the donut eaters to recover it
lol I initially wondered why anyone would want to hack Sears OR Kmart, but on 2nd thought, they probably have piss poor security, because they can’t afford to pay for good security! LOL
They most likely have 3 or 4 people working in their corporate IT office, they’re worked to death, and don’t really give a damn about anything except for beer and various pills.
There's one in our suburban community. I call it the "zombie store" because you walk in, and there are about 3 people working in a store where the equivalent WM would probably have 100 people. It's been like this for nearly a decade, I'm amazed they stay in business. You look on the shelf for motor oil and they have grades (SL) that were obsoleted back in the early 2000 era.
I believe it's rather deceptive, as I recall it was Kmart that bought Sears, but the answer is no, no they don't or Sears. It's sad the stores that have disappeared and diSsolved just since I was a kid. I remember Sears and Roebuck with their awesome catalogs and the sold guns and everything, as did Montgomery Wards, and when J.C.Penney's carried tools, camping equipment and, gulp, guns too!
I too have fond memories of looking at guns in mail order catalogs. Alas, the GCA of 1968 killed that market.
Beer and pills and making sure their resume’s are up to date.

It’s pretty obvious that Sears and KM are on a glide path to bankruptcy. The only question is the slope.
They’re uncompetitive in the ruthless retail wars, and trapped by the ongoing Baraqqi Depression.
