Remember, the soviets, Britain, and America (the big three, Stalin, Churchill, and FDR) had sworn unconditional surrender upon their enemies, Hitler and Japan.
I don’t believe Oppy was motivated by any patriotic fervor for capitalist America, what motivated him was his desire to to destroy Japan, Communist Russia’s enemy.
