Orbital Sciences, which used a refurbished Russian engine in the doomed Antares rocket, insists that the technology is sound and that there are no better modern alternatives.

Sounds like NASA is privatizing with the wrong guys.

Sounds like you are leaping to unjustified conclusions.

We do not yet even know the cause of the failure.

People seem to forget when we first started our space ventures we lost hundreds of test pilots trying to break the sound barrier and hundreds of test rockets...private industry is now a virgin in this venture and will also suffer its bruises. Perspective is really needed on this one before it can be perfected.

At least Space-X has developed and built its own engines. Orbital has been using Soviet built engines. Not Soviet designed engines, but engines that date back to the old Soviet Union.

I'm sure Space-X would beg to differ.

Yeah...after an incident like this I would be looking for a company called "Sub-Orbital Sciences"...not "Orbital Sciences". The sucker never made it out of atmosphere.

What’s new?

The last thing I would want a big investment riding on would be anything Russian. They “may” have gotten rid of communism, but they still have the same work ethic problems.
