If they own a house in Paonia it is a disaster for them.

No, it wasn’t an obvious joke.

Yes, it was.

Miners work their a$$ off for their money, I doubt they want to be on welfare.

More victims of Obama’s “War on Coal”, proving the paucity of his understanding of anything to do with the energy industry or economics in general. It also proves the media are the real dunces for believing and touting this guy as a super-smart savior.

“As a teen ager, I got to witness the crazy ‘60’s.”........

Try going back to the 50’s when America was a real country, people worked for a living, welfare was definitely a “no no” and abortion was taboo. Indeed it was a far better time than we are experiencing today.

I’d rather been a young adult. But the 80s overall were a better time in general. Darn near utopia compared to now.

“With unemployment benefits and EBT they could be sitting back with their feet in the air, smoking pot for years...”

I disagree. Fundamentally, people enjoy working. But, I would also guess that there are now a few more (R) voters...

My main memories of growing up in the fifties concern a lot of very hard work of the sort most people cannot even comprehend now but I would rather work like that again (if my old body would stand it) than live in this current nightmare. Now and then I read articles about how the current situation is somehow much better than how things used to be but I don’t see it that way. When we were not working at full speed back then we were doing something enjoyable, not sitting and texting meaningless messages to someone sitting within sight of us.

This is gonna hurt.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paonia,_Colorado

Coal mining

“A substantial portion of Paonia’s residents are employed in one of several coal mines located near Somerset a few miles from the town. The valley’s principal coal mines are Oxbow Mining’s Elk creek mine,[6] Arch Coal’s West Elk Mine,[7] and a mine run by Bowie Resources.[8] Bucyrus International, a supplier of underground coal mining equipment, operates a small warehouse in Paonia for support of the underground longwall systems that are operating in the North Fork valley. Union Pacific provides service to the Bowie #2 Mine, loading-up 100 car trains in two hours.[9]”

With a population of 1500, this means 10% of the town are out of work. That’s crippling to an entire community.

Just the beginning of a long series of such layoffs as Obamas War on Coal continues.

His war on coal will wreck small, middle class, working communities as planned.

Restaurants, stores, and other middle class businesses with working class employees in the larger multi-county area will get hurt, too .

Next, lower local property and sales tax revenue .

Back then a country boy could survive. Same is true today although under a slightly different political situation.

Obama wants the less fortunate to be discouraged and dependent on the government, taking a handout in exchange for their vote. Don’t take the deal and allow him to rule your lives. If you do, you will find yourself being another economic slave on his government plantation until you are able to escape. And he is working very hard to prevent escape.

It’s a deal with the devil you can’t win. Resist the temptation. Don’t give in or give up your vote foolishly. While you still have the power to vote, use it wisely.

And remember, a country boy can survive.

I was born in 1951. I remember the mid to late 50’s. I remember some of my Dad’s World War II friends visiting, pride in America, “Yes Sir, “No Sir”, etc., etc.
