On Friday afternoon, family spokesman Jonathan Franks told the AP that captive Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi will be released from a Mexican prison immediately, per a judge's order.
Sgt. Tahmooressi served two tours in Afghanistan and was back home in the United States when he inadvertently crossed the border into Mexico while his legally purchased and legally owned guns were in his truck. He was imprisoned in Mexico and has been there for almost 8 months. After the judge made the ruling, which did not address the question of guit or innocence of the charges against him, the family issued a statement.
"It is with an overwhelming and humbling feeling of relief that we confirm that Andrew was released today after spending 214 days in a Mexican jail."
Tahmooressi's plight has been the subject of much scrutiny and has garnered support from around the nation and the halls of Congress, some of whom have commented already on his release.

FOX's Greta Van Sustern carried the torch on this one. Sure, it wasn't bad for ratings, but she really kept this in the public eye. Obama ignored the 100k signature petition. I bet our azz-Prez takes credit for the release in some future speech, as in "We never leave our heroes behind."
In CA, the law is: The guns must be carried in a locked gun case, Loaded clips and ammo boxes may not be in the same case as the locked gun. We always carried our weapons and ammo (locked in separate cases) in the trunk of the vehicle when we went to the range.
Since we've only been gone from CA for less than 6 months, I don't think the laws have changed.
