Meet Mia Love. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the Republicans’ first black congresswoman.

For at least half a century, the party of Lincoln has battled charges that it is racist, sexist and anti-immigrant.

Today, voters from a conservative state made those arguments a little bit harder to make. In Utah, Mia Love became the first black Republican woman — and first Haitian American — elected to Congress.

For the GOP — a house divided that faces significant demographic hurdles to winning the White House in 2016 even as it celebrates President Obama’s shellacking — this was huge. A party threatened with extinction among African Americans and immigrants now has someone to brag about in Washington. In a wave election less about fresh Republican ideas than fervid disapproval of all things presidential, Love’s compelling personal story is an oasis. She’s not just a black face in what’s often described as a party full of angry old white men. She’s a path forward.

I’m happy too. However she will be labelled an Uncle Tom, a reverse racist, and a hater of her own party.

First BLACK congress WOMAN is a republican?! Where’s the news on that?! We beat them in both categories! Hah.

I love WaPo already sending the message out there...we know you’ve been the racist party but now we can say you’re totally racist just part of the way... Their schtick is tiring

I was really happy to hear she won. However, I hope this is the last time she's identified this way. From now on she should only be referred to as Congresswoman Mia Love, R-UT.

So...Tim Scott isn't worth bragging about?

As conservatives, I would we were supposed to hate women and African Americans? I’m confused?!?!? As a 52 year old white male, the leadership and passion I see are coming from the African American candidates.

I hope and pray that more AA see what our party offers. Last time I checked, we weren’t espousing the extermination of the race via abortion.

Yeah, what's with that? Tim Scott's win is amazing, first BLACK senator since reconstruction..and from SOUTH Carolina. Last week I got to shake his hand and yesterday I got to vote for him. Of all the great things that happened last night...this was a crown jewel. And I'm WHITE! Darn, there goes my raciest label, I was just getting comfortable with it...what will the Democrats call me now?

For at least half a century, the party of Lincoln has battled charges that it is racist, sexist and anti-immigrant.

Because the GOP has been too timid to call out the DIMS and the MSM on their lies.

That had better change quick. The voters have given Republicans one last chance. If they blow it this time, they're done as a major political party.

Mia is the antidote to Maxine “Muddy” Waters. GOP, use her
image everywhere, she will chase the racism rap away from the GOP.

Yeah, because J.C. Watts, Allen West, and Elbert Guillory, to name a few, are white, I guess.

Good to know! Our side needs to push back against the unending divisiveness of the Left’s identity politics.
