Ed Gillespie concedes Virginia Senate race
CNN ^ | November 7, 2014 | Eric Bradner

-- Republican Ed Gillespie conceded the Virginia Senate race Friday to incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner.

Gillespie said at a Friday afternoon news conference that he had called Warner "congratulating him on his re-election" in a race that turned out to be one of the midterm election's biggest surprises.

Polls had shown Warner, a popular former governor who'd been endorsed by his Republican predecessor, ex-Sen. John Warner, with a hefty lead. But Gillespie led Warner for much of the night as returns trickled in Tuesday -- and ultimately ended up trailing by less than one percentage point.

Get ready: 2016 starts now

He said he would challenge the result "if I believed that there were any conceivable way" to win in a recount. He said he'd forwarded complaints about voter irregularities on to Virginia election officials, but that those votes wouldn't change the race's outcome.

"In my head and in my heart, I know that a change in outcome is not possible," he said. "The numbers just aren't there, and it's time to accept the decision of my fellow Virginians."

Gillespie's surprisingly strong showing has fueled speculation that he could run again for statewide office -- including possibly for governor.

Oh, well, it was a really good try. Other races remain in the air, which I’ll look up in the next half hour.

I hate this. If only the GOP helped Ed. I know Ed personally.

He’s a likeable man. I like him and Ollie North so much.

That pisses me off.

And not a damn thing will be done about the obvious vote fraud going on in the late stages as they schemed to come up with just enough.

Dan Bongino (MD-6) conceded this morning. Another wonderfully gracious speech.

That old &$*@% John Warner votes at our polling place. I was there when he came in, looking like he’s at death’s door. Threatened my husband with his life if he dared speak to him.

Warner has already done a lot of damage to Virginia voters with his lock step support of Obama, but maybe the Republican majority in the Senate will neutralize Mark Warner.

Mark certainly took advantage of the turncoat liberal ex-Sen. John Warner. I was glad to see him retire. Still surprised that so many Virginians would vote for Mark Warner, another corrupt disciple of President Obama and Harry Reid.

Gov. Milliken did the same thing to Dick Headlee in Michigan in the early eighties. Milliken was a middle of the roader and Headlee was a solid conservative and Milliken endorsed lefty Blanchard.

Libertarian candidate picked off 2% of the vote. Thanks, clown.

VA has a democrat governor because Conservative Party picked off about 5% a few years ago. Thanks, clown.

Too bad he couldn’t pull an Al Franken and find some ballots in a trunk of a car.

Gillespie ran a good campaign and I will vote for him again in any future run for the Senate or the Governor’s office. More importantly, we put a bloody horsehead in the bed of that smug creep who is our senior senator. Gone is the illusion that he is a singularly beloved figure in Virginia who just happens to be our senator. Warner will hereafter be looking over his shoulder knowing we know he is just another duplicitous political hack.

I blame this loss on the Virginia Republican Party.

It is time for them to clean house.

Oh well... let’s get him in 2020...(Mark Warner’s mom played bridge at times with my mom when I was growing up. Mom said she (Mark’s mom) is nice, but Mark is a dirt bag.)

Yep happening with every state wide race now. I am encouraged that Gillespie probably really won, as did the last GOP candidate for Virginia AG which is so important right now. That was stolen too. Something has to happen to get fair elections back in Virginia.
