Why many aren’t celebrating low US unemployment (disingenuous AP)

The unemployment rate no longer seems to reflect America’s mood.

Friday’s strong jobs report showed that the jobless rate—the most closely watched gauge of the economy’s health—is down to 5.8 percent. A year ago, the rate was 7.2 percent. Five years ago, it was 10 percent.

It’s the kind of sustained decline that would normally suggest a satisfied public. Not so much anymore. […]

Many Americans don’t feel they've benefited from falling unemployment any more than they have from a sustained rise in the stock market or from solid U.S. economic growth.

Some hints of their discontent can be found within an otherwise glowing jobs report for October: Wages that are barely growing and a stubbornly low proportion of adults who either have a job or are looking for one. …

I propose a new term: “Job Free.”

This is people who COULD work a job if not driven permanently from the market (almost always by government interference) OR payed more by welfare than getting a job would pay.

If we could get all those pesky unemployed people out of the job market we can get the unemployment rate down to %0.00 ...

The election is over, but lefties are still trying to point at the meaningless unemployment statistic that doesn’t count people who have stopped looking for a job. They are still trying to characterize Barry’s plan of handing out fake disability payments to half of the country in return for a vote as a positive thing.

The unemployment rate no longer seems to reflect America’s mood.

In other words -- it doesn't reflect reality.

5% is considered “near full employment” (as people in that category are considered to be in short term transition between jobs).

That HARDLY matches the situation today.

Polling by the Gallup Organization shows that Democrats are largely positive about the economy, and their confidence has risen over the past year as the unemployment rate has dropped. By contrast, sentiment remains negative among Republican and independent voters.

In short...for Democrats, party loyalty/cheerleading trumps reality.

I haven’t stopped looking (as much as I ever have been) but since I draw no $$$ from the government, I am not counted in the ranks.

Tapped my retirement account dry.

Things are craptacular in the Obamaconomy.

No one is celebrating “low US unemployment” because everyone knows that is Obama/Democrat Party/US Government ugly lie? That would be my guess.

Sounds like something on the heels of Pelosi’s “job lock”.

Don't forget that Republican donors were targeted when Government Motors shuttered the doors of some dealerships.

Ahhh, this would be the state of being after they are released from the infamous Joblock! I would find it a most interesting and devastating to Lord Foul and the democraps, report that shows just how many AMERICANS are permanently driven from the job, market, as you say, by the lefts progrom!

The unemployment rate no longer seems to reflect America’s mood.

That's because the unemployment rate is BS and America knows it.

If AP didn't have its nose so far up Obama's butt that they can't see the sun, they'd do their job and lambast the federal government for putting out bogus statistics.

But then again, we haven't had "reporters" since Watergate. Now we have "journalists" only interested in liberal agenda, not the truth.

Actually, the economy is doing surprisingly well considering what's coming out of DC.

More evidence of the resiliency of the US economy. I believe, when we get a more pro growth administration, this economy is going to roar instead of being one of the worse Post WW2 “recoveries.”

America DOES NOT HAVE LOW UNEMPLOYMENT.

We import everything from China. China has the jobs, which used to be American.

Bring back jobs to America.

GOP stand up for American jobs.

The hidden consolation is all the democrap government appointees for house and senate dems who will now be ‘looking for a job’ and ‘struggling to make house payments and car payments’ like those for whom these vermin worked so much democrip magical suffering.

If you are out of work longer than a year, you are by definition not unemployed, you are out of the job market. Its a statistician’s trick. That is how more and more people lose their jobs and the unemployment figures keep going lower.

Despite that, oil and gas activity connected with fracking and shale have, against all odds, against everything the Dems have tried to do, managed to resuscitate this economy and keep it from total collapse.

Someone once predicted that the oil boom would create the impression that Obama had been a good president though he had done everything he could to snuff it out.

Thank God for oil men and private property.

First of all, because the numbers are lies. When millions of productive people give up looking for work and drop out of the labor pool, the numbers look better than they really are.

Secondly, a lot of the jobs being created are part-time, low-pay Mcjobs that are desperation moves for the long-term unemployed.

Third, employment isn't the only measure of an economy's strength. Most of the other indicators are sluggish at best. And that's after the administration has cooked the books to clean them up.

Why aren’t U. S. Citizens celebrating low unemployment.

Because close to 25% of our workers are idle.

Duh!
