Initiative and Referendum States

(Excerpt) Read more at ncsl.org ...

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Government; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: initiatives
This is from 2012 but, just in case you don't think the mayors and mommies can't affect your state via the initiative process, think again. And you know they're looking at it as we sit. Working it in NV right now and I've heard Oregon is being looked at as well as Maine. The deniers will stop at nothing to infringe on your rights. NOTHING!

Good post. I was wondering about this very issue. Oregon is next. We’re toast.

You can bet that any state that has this process in place WILL be targeted by the nannies and mommies. Looks like we’re next in line here in NV. Signatures were submitted on Tuesday with more than two times the number required. Even if they checked for the validity of registered voters, with that many sigs, the required 102+ would still be easy to meet. If ignorance is bliss, there’s a lot of blissful folks running around loose.

The NRA and other gun rights organizations are going to have to go pro-active on this “background check” business or we will be picked off state by state.

I practically lived on the various newspaper comments sections up in Washington, trying to get our point across: The people were being lied to and manipulated, i.e. There is no “loophole” (backed up with quotes from the 1968 GCA) and it is a registration scheme in disguise (typical liberal trick).

Unfortunately, non-gun owners didn’t give a damn. All they could see is how “reasonable” it was, ignoring the Form 4473 connection. That, or the “it would make us safer” meme. Bloomberg, et al will use the same successful arguments in Nevada and other targeted states.

Our side is going to have to offer a background check that ONLY checks the buyer, via a drivers license or some recognized photo ID. I don’t know if such a mechanism even exists, but if not we should set one up.

We have a more rational (hopefully) political climate in D.C. now, so maybe that part can be handled there. Sitting around and only making defensive arguments against this background check scam is not going to work. We need our own competing version to cut the ground out from under them.

Roger that. The low/no info voters don’t use any reasoning or logic when countered with “How will this make us safer?”. Facts and charts and figures, regardless of where they came from, are ignored and cast aside since it’s for the sake of safety. Pretty disgusted right about now.
