The flaw in your thinking is that many million registered Republicans voted for Mitt because they seriously thought he was the best candidate.

That's not what I saw and heard throughout the conservative electorate. What I heard consistently was a frank admission that Romney sucked, followed by the desperate claim that Romney didn't suck as bad as Obama.

It really wasn't secret mind control rays from Karl Rove's attic.

I don't know a single conservative who ever thought it was.

The conservative base isn't only not a majority in the country, it is arguably not a majority of the GOP electorate.

Do you work inside the Beltway? Just curious.

We need to make the base bigger.

Do you think continued abject surrender to RINOs will do that?

Get our big money guns to fund the equivalent of Ralph Nader. Fauxcahontas Warren. Michael Moore. Sean Penn. Al Sharpton. Louis Farrakhan. Van Jones. Bernie Sanders. Greg Orman.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Free Republic Party...FRP

Sarah Palin has talked about a "Freedom Party", which I think is an excellent name.

We already have America's Party and the Constitution Party, among others. Why (if it comes to that) create a new party when these parties have at least the beginning of a party structure in place?

every single candidate will have said something that causes some group of Freepers to shout "RINO!

That's just plain stupid Rovian Establishment propaganda. DDon't fall for that.

In 2008, one of the other candidates, I forget who now, dubbed the governor Huckafeller.

Clinton or Bush explains much of the problems/misery of the past 20 years.

That and the fact that the Earth is bipolar. :)

Yeah, and they were all in states like Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut, where the nominee gets to lose by 20 points instead of 25 points. Oh, and Utah, where he wins by 40 points instead of 30 points.

This could be turned around to the advantage of conservatives. That is, get a real conservative to run as a “conservative third party” candidate at first, running *just* against Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney, the only two candidates the Republican establishment will allow.

This will give conservatives a chance to *not* support either of those two hosers. While they will get a huge amount of money from their Chamber of Commerce buddies, their standing in the polls, even with Hillary running, will be in the dumpster. It will be an opportunity for conservatives to give the Republican leadership the message, “We don’t want these losers. We want a conservative candidate!”

But this all leads up to the Republican National Convention, which will be a mighty brawl. In effect, the conservatives will mount a takeover. Not with that “conservative party” candidate, but with a conservative “dark horse” within the Republican party, who will offer to take the “conservative party” candidate as his Vice President.

And all the conservatives who were semi-outside of the party rejoin with the Republicans, though there was never a real split.

“All those who stayed home in 2012 and allowed Obama to win forgot George Patton’s admonition: “The perfect is the enemy of the good.” “

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Exactly. I know the Freepers here who think otherwise may have their hearts in the right place, but they are wrong - totally wrong. They are just too proud or too short-sighted to admit it.

Opportunity knocks. Instead of fleecing the gullible of money in small lots like you did in the last go round, you can really clean up if Hillary likes the cut of your gib.

"registered Republicans" <> "the conservative electorate". Not by quite a margin. If all those people who told you that Romney sucked were registered Republicans, and if they are intelligent enough to think for themselves, how did he wind up the nominee??

And FYI, I live and work in a solidly red state, GOP everything state and federal except for on senator. BTW my state went for Romney in the 2012 primaries.

I realize now that I left three important words out of my comment.

The flaw in your thinking is that many millions of registered Republicans voted for Mitt in the primaries because they seriously thought he was the best candidate.

I stand by everything else I said, with that correction in mind.

I think the only strategy the Democrats have is for the GOP to fight among itself and hope the Republican party splits into a third party while Hillary slips into the presidency like Bill did. They are forced to go with Hillary because they have not groomed anyone else to replace Obama.

My strategy would be to turn this election into a vote against the democratic party for their hope and change (lies and deceptions) they have given us over the last six years. It worked well during the last mid-terms.

The image of the Democratic party is not looking very good right now and many democratic congressmen are ready to save face (and cover their a$$) with their voters. Watch the House and Senate democrats and how they vote on the critical issues over the next session to get some idea of democratic party unity.

I see Hillary contributing nothing to improve the image of the democratic party having been part of their Senate majority and administration as Secretary of State. She definitely was a negative factor for the mid-term democrats who sought her endorsement.

It’s going to get wild with the big money and media who support the democratic party. They spent a lot of money and publicity on Wendy Davis’s gubernatorial race down here in Texas and got nothing to show for it. I think the internet will play a much larger part in the next presidential campaign. Low budget conservative grass roots and social websites will neutralize the more expensive traditional media sources funded by big democratic contributors for propaganda and information. This is why the internet must remain neutral.

In the meantime, we need to keep a close eye on the GOPe regarding legislative issues and the candidates they support to ensure we do not end up losing an election to the least qualified candidate like last time.

You are so right, the we can never win contingent has a perpetual domesday mindset., sky is falling even when we make a small bit of conservative progress..

And of course the GOP will be sure to wretch up some GOPe hair all like another Bush, or a Christie that will just about guarantee that a REAL conservative will run as a third party candidate. If the GOP was smart (for a change) they would run a real conservative instead of colluding with the Rats to kill them.

I predict that the GOP’s next nominee will be the one who received the most votes in the primaries. Nothing more, nothing less. If anybody’s favorite losses, it is because a lot of other people who voted did not share your sentiments.

I didn’t spend a penny in 2012. Not of my money, or anyone else’s. So, whoever you are, you’re mistaken. Nice try though.

This is so simple.

Get Lizzie “Lieawatha” Warren to run on the Communist Party Ticket.

Find the most liberal possible Republican. John Anderson was great at splitting the vote with Jimmy Carter.
