Keystone XL fight sealed Mary (still exempt yet expendable) Landrieu’s fate
Boston Globe ^ | 11/20/14 | John E. Sununu

Posted on 11/21/2014 2:47:30 AM PST by Libloather

In the brutal closing scene of the 2007 film “There Will Be Blood,” a bowling alley beating, set in motion by years of tension and personal torment, concludes with the final biting words, “I’m finished.” Sifting through the wreckage on the Senate floor last week, the same words could have come from Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu. Forty-one of her Democrat colleagues ruthlessly beat down her proposal to approve the Keystone pipeline, effectively sealing her fate in the December runoff election to keep her seat.

Keeping a brave face, Landrieu insisted she held no one to blame and only felt “joy in the fight.” But as anyone who saw Daniel Day Lewis’s dark performance will attest, some fights contain far less joy than others. Perhaps the battle over Keystone would have been more fun had Majority Leader Harry Reid allowed it to take place a few months ago when it might have mattered. As it is, Landrieu will be remembered for her failure; her colleagues for their lack of remorse.

In most circumstances, Democrats would have been working hard to ensure the reelection of a threatened colleague. After November’s Republican wave, however, their majority is gone. At most, 47 Senators will caucus with Democrats next year. Those left standing are tired and disoriented by the elections, and Reid has had enough. Landrieu may be a friend, but she’s expendable — the political equivalent of a “dead woman walking.”

If Obama gets his coup completed, the neither elections nor majorities will matter. America will be a moot point, an exercise in hot air and cowardly politicians cringing to the MSM and the “R” word...”racists”.

He’s given us the national finger...will anyone be brave enough to grab that extended digit and Ben it backwards until the new emperor cries “Uncle Sam”?

If not, we need to petition that “Home of the BRAVE” never be used again in this country.

Can't gloat enough watching the downfall of this miserable wench. She was such a cocky, mouthy leftist hack when she thought she was untouchable.

She's one of those who I wanted to see lose, just to see her lose.

If the uber liberal Boston Globe says she's toast, that means she's really toast.

It means the Boston Globe got directions to blast her probably from the New York Slimes.

Why? She's not radically environmental enough for the Democrat party; they don't want to even play the moderate line any more.

The real story here is where the Democrat/Progressive leadership is going as revealed by the hyper liberal Boston Globe.

Landrieu is down 15% in the polls. Did she really think that passing Keystone XL would have turned that around?

I'd never get over confident about polls, especially after what happened to McDaniel.

This, however, is interesting. Landrieu assumed this would show she has clout in the US Senate. Instead, it showed she has so little clout that her fellow dems wouldn't vote to save her.

I actually wanted to see all 5 of the Dem women lose .... Landrieux, Hagan, Lundergren-Grimes, Nunn, & Shaheen. Unfortunately, Shaheen didn’t happen, but if the winds keep blowing the way they’re blowing now, Mary Mary Quite Contrary will be going down! If she had any shame, conscience, whatever, she’d just withdraw her sorry self, but Dems never do that. I’m glad to see the Repubs rallying behind Cassidy (including Maness) right on down to the wire/election time.

Me too, but after brown's performance as a senator, we didn't lose much {except a seat} in voting difference on social issue bills.

“...we need to petition that “Home of the BRAVE” never be used again…”

Perhaps the last line of the Anthem can be updated to “ O’er the land of the weak and the home of the slave.” There is nothing free or brave about our generation, which has betrayed the blood shed by better men in the cause of preserving freedom.

4 out of 5 isn’t bad. :-) Icing on the cake: watching Mary get stabbed in the back by the Dems who wouldn’t give her just 1 more vote on Keystone.

Mary, You don't have to live in your Mom's basement anymore but your DC House.

You were right voting for Obamacare cost your job.

Ditto here. We lived in Louisiana for a few years, and I loathed her then. I even wrote to her about an issue once and got the typical “I really care about you, but get lost.” letter from her in reply. Good riddance.

Not uber liberal Boston Globe.

This is an editorial by Republican John Sununu, not a news article written by a BG staff member. All newspapers allow Republicans to write such editorials.

Forget the polls.....the citizen/voters in the great state of Louisiana should turn out, all of them....every one, and they should vote against Senator Mary Landrieu in the Senate Runoff election being held on Saturday, December 6, 2014!!! Louisiana voters can send a powerful message to POTUS, Barack Hussein “Satan” Obama, and the American people across the land.....that Obama is toast, finished....just as Landrieu is...politically for eternity!!! I pray that Congressman, Bill Cassidy and the Republican Party will not let up one iota in his Senate race with Landrieu. The GOTV effort in Louisiana must be massive!!! The time has come to destroy Mary Landrieu, POTUS Obama and the entire Democrat Party!!!
