RIDLEY SCOTT INSULTS JUDAISM'S CORE: 11-YEAR-OLD AS GOD
Breitbart's Big Hollywood ^ | Dec 1, 2014 | WILLIAM BIGELOW

Posted on 12/02/2014 12:01:45 PM PST by Bratch

In the new movie, Exodus, director Ridley Scott decided to directly contravene possibly the most basic tenet of Judaism: that God is One and cannot be anthropomorphized. In the famous scene in which Moses stands near the burning bush and hears God talking to him, Scott decided to take liberties with the Biblical text and have an eleven-year-old boy, called Malak, stand near the bush and articulate the voice of God.

Scott’s excuse for violating the sacred text? As he said to The Hollywood Reporter: "Sacred texts give no specific depiction of God, so for centuries artists and filmmakers have had to choose their own visual depiction. Malak exudes innocence and purity, and those two qualities are extremely powerful."

I have to say, he makes a sharp-looking Moses. Reminds me of Ba’al in “Stargate: SG-1”.

Breitbart should probably do a bit of reading. Malak is Hebrew for angel or messenger, and God speaking through a messenger because can’t (for various reason) hear Him directly isn’t a terribly new concept.

1 Kings 19 New International Version (NIV)
Elijah Flees to Horeb

The Lord Appears to Elijah

And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”

11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

True, but they did get one characterization spot-on:

So YOU thought that you would? Got it. Schmuck.

In an Emmerich-type film, this could've been the baddie:

Plenty of Old and New Testament texts describe the appearance of angels as “men” or “young men.” (Never women - not even a feminine pronoun - or children, in spite of artwork from the Renaissance to today.)

No such description is given in the narrative of Moses and the burning bush. A reasonable reader would conclude that there was no apparition in human form at this event, only the fire that signaled God’s presence.

LOL! Apophis was always a twerp. Ba’al, on the other hand, was ironic.

I wanted it to be better than it was. Those “ninjas took me out of the story, to what the heck?I also do not think they made emphasis on what the townies of Sodom wanted “to do” to God’s angels, and that it was reprehensible.

I saw the preview for this movie last night. What I found offensive was the subtitle: Gods and Kings.

Moses brought down the ten commandments from Our Lord and the first commandment was to recognize Him as the one and only God and to worship no other.

Putting God in the companionship with other gods in the subtitle, like some kind of Hindu pantheon, purposely lessens His almightiness, because it implies that there is a co-equality among other so-called gods and the God of Moses.

Typical lefty and non-believer tact, that their is no order or exceptionalism to what is right and true. I expect that the movie will show the cruelty of the Jews for being insensitive to the Pharaohs gods, or Pharaoh, himself since he was considered a god incarnate among the Egyptians.

I think I’ll stick with Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner instead of “I’m Batman” and grumpy Mr. Clean.
