Rolling Stone’s UVA story a disaster for all ("Whatever the truth")
Boston Globe ^ | December 7, 2014 | Yvonne Abraham

Posted on 12/07/2014 2:50:11 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Well, this is awful.

The Web blew up Friday afternoon with the news that Rolling Stone magazine no longer stands behind last month’s horrific, explosive story of a gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity. A report in The Washington Post cast central elements of her story into serious doubt. Her friends and supporters now say they’re dubious, too.

It’s disastrous for everybody involved. At this writing, the victim, Jackie, insists she was telling the truth about being raped by seven students. Whatever the truth, she must be in a world of pain right now, particularly if she tried to extricate herself from the magazine story before it was published, as she now maintains.

The destructive fallout goes beyond one woman’s suffering. The Rolling Stone story, which had helped make it all but impossible to ignore the scourge of campus sexual assault, is now going to do the opposite. Because now, emboldened by this one possibly fabricated story of rape, the chorus of people who believe women routinely make these things up will grow louder.

It already has. You could see them doing their happy dances in the comments below the Post story, which, a couple of hours after it went up, looked a lot like 1950. If it turns out to be entirely false, Jackie’s story will join other fake narratives—the Tawana Brawley debacle, the accusations against the Duke lacrosse players—as weapons for those moral cave-dwellers who would have you believe that women “cry rape” all the time for attention, or revenge.

“No matter what the reality is,......

That sucking sound? That’s us being dragged back into the last century.

Can we please not go there?......

Clinton benefactor and bag man was at the ready when the Rolling Stone Magazine story was published Nov 19:

Nov 20, 2014: After Rolling Stone Article on UVA, Gov. McAuliffe Releases Statement "RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - After a graphic article outlining a young woman's sexual assault in 2012 was published by Rolling Stone Magazine, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe is weighing in the controversy surrounding the University of Virginia.

The statement reads: "I was deeply disturbed to read about the sexual assault allegations outlined in Rolling Stone magazine. Sexual violence is a nationwide problem, and it is critical that our schools acknowledge that this is a pervasive issue and take bold action to end it.

"Earlier today, I spoke to the university leadership and conveyed my deep concerns with what has been reported. We are in agreement that a full and fair investigation must be pursued, and I have called for a zero tolerance strategy to combat campus sexual assault. I have asked university officials to conduct a full review of all of their policies and procedures and if decided, to bring in outside experts to assist in this effort.

"We must also find ways that our local law enforcement and prosecution efforts can better align with university actions. Earlier this year, I signed Executive Order 25 establishing the Governor's Task Force on Combating Campus Sexual Violence, sending a message that Virginia will not tolerate sexual violence on our campuses or in our communities. Now is the time to act - we must ensure that survivors are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, and we must do more to hold perpetrators accountable.

"As the parents of five children, this is an issue Dorothy and I care deeply about. I look forward to seeing strong recommendations from the task force that will help keep more Virginians safe and ensure that our students are free from the threat of sexual violence."

Police have upped patrols in the area near the fraternity house accused of being involved in a violent rape alleged in a Rolling Stone article.

Windows were broken and messages were spray painted on the wall of the fraternity, reading, "suspend us," among other things.

"A Rape On Campus: A Brutal Assault and Struggle For Justice at UVa." tells the story of a young woman who recounts an attack in 2012 and its disturbing aftermath.".....

MEANWHILE:

It’s Nudity Week (Again) at Brown University -- "From naked yoga to naked open mic night, the Rhode Island Ivy’s bare-bodied extravaganza is in full swing. Caroline Linton reports.

The jokes write themselves: It’s Nudity Week at Brown University. A sampling from the roster of events: “Love Being Naked? Want to be Naked More? Want to watch others perform naked? Want to step out of your comfort zone? Want to talk about nudity?”

This is the same school, after all, that hosts the Naked Doughnut Run and the Sex, Power, God party—so it’s not really a surprise to have an entire week devoted to all things bare and in the buff.

But the organizers of “Nudity in the Upspace,” a weeklong series of events running from September 30 until October 5 at Brown University, are hoping to accomplish a far more serious goal with their nakedness. In fact, the whole point of Nudity Week, say Rebecca Wolinsky and Camila Pacheco-Fores, is to help Brown students remove their negative stereotypes about body image."........

Classroom prostitution for fun and profit? - Exclusive: Judith Reisman reveals what passes for education at Northwestern University

"On March 4, Laurie Higgens, the dauntless director of Illinois Family Institute wrote, “The burnished legacy of Alfred Kinsey and his cultural progeny, the sexual revolutionaries of the ’60s, burns bright at Northwestern University.”

In “Gettin’ Freaky at Northwestern University,” Higgens was reporting on Northwestern University’s professor Michael Bailey, who has a rather gloomy history of luring vulnerable youth into college-credit peeping!"......

Gee whiz Mz Sabrina. The Duke lacrosse team “accusations” went beyond being a “debacle”.

Also, I wonder how many men are wrongly convicted of rapes they did not commit.

Why? Because now we are afraid to follow the truth wherever it may lead, and to tolerate any error so long as prejudice is left free to validate our narrative...

No matter what the reality is, there is going to be the perception out there now that women lie about rape,”.
—————————————————————————————Because, clearly, some women clearly DO lie about it. Which is why those claims need to be thoroughly investigated. It doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t come forward—if its the truth, the truth will come out. However, it’s also possible that the truth can be embarrassing for ALL parties.

When it comes to sex, there is often a lot of ambiguity out there, especially when alcohol (and the ensuing bad judgement) is involved. In short, don’t do stupid stuff you regret and then claim it’s rape.

In the case of Jackie, I’ll bet she was egged on by the Leftist author, who no doubt told her many times how brave and courageous she was.

My guess is that at least half of all allegations of rape that are not reported to the police are fabrications. Lena Dunham is not the only one, and not all allegations are that wide spread. I suspect a lot of woman accuse men of rape behind their backs as form of revenge for whatever screwy reason women want revenge.

That’s incredible what that woman is saying. I mean, what is she saying? If you don’t believe destructive liars like Tawana Brawley and Crystal Mangum you’re what? A person who thinks rape is OK?

These modern day “feminists” have all lost their minds, they just can’t think straight anymore.

Glenn Reynolds says it best: teach women not to lie about rape.

And these lying scumbags make it even worse. So after false accusations, they still can’t drop their liberal make believe world view in face of the facts. And its they who hurt real victims of sexual assault by continuing to push their mantras.

They just ran with it and now it’s falling apart.

“....Well, apparently she didn’t talk to the friends, or at least one of them, who told the Washington Post last night that the account of what transpired after the alleged rape was not accurate. “Andy” said that he and the other two friends did not find Jackie in a bloody dress with the Phi Psi house looming in the background, as it was told in Rolling Stone. Neither, he says, did they debate the “social price” of taking her to the hospital. He said Jackie told him that she had been at a frat party and a group of men forced her to perform oral sex, although she did not specify which frat. He said she did not have any visible injuries but the friends offered to get her help, and then spent the night with her in her dorm room to comfort her at her request. [Update, Dec. 7: It appears Erderly also did not talk to the friend identified in the Rolling Stone article as “Cindy,” who told the Washington Post a similar story to Drew’s.]..........

Ms.Erdely seems to be quite the prolific writer. One has to wonder how many of her stories were just as fabricated as this one was. Jayson Blair had a similar resume until he was caught as I recall.

Writing is a much easier vocation when one does not have to worry about facts, logic, reason, history, or justice.

I know from experience that women quite often remember things differently from the way that they actually happen when the matter in question is of little or no consequence. I suspect that the same thing may happen when the matter in question is of grave consequence.

No doubt someone will say that the same thing applies to men and I would not say otherwise but men do not often claim to have been raped.

I suspect a lot of college coeds wake up in the morning regretting an alcohol-soaked hookup the previous evening with some guy they wouldn't give a second look if they were sober.

I used to work the midnight shift at a place close to the city's bars. The place I worked was situated right between the college campi and the bars. Even in the cold winter, females would be walking in large groups to the bars dressed in nice, man-attracting clothes while not wearing any kind of overcoat.

A truly accurate study of how many false accusations are made would be interesting. The problem, of course, is that people who study it are likely to be activists in the cause. Not a recipe for good science. And of course that in probably a majority of cases it’s impossible to determine for sure whether a rape accusation is true or false.

The vast majority of "date rape" charges would be very hard to prove. The woman might be thinking "I wasn't really in the mood, therefore it was rape". The guy operates under the standard "If she did not say no, and did not resist, then it was consensual". With guys not being mind readers, it should be the woman's obligation to deliver an unambiguous "no".

The problem with "non date rape", ie criminal rape, as in "submit or I will hurt you", is that there would be too many black faces in the lineup. The feminists prefer going after middle class frat boys.

We now have at least three high profile cases (Brawley, Duke, UVA) where the story is indeed "made up."

Indeed, it's extraordinary how many high profile "rape" cases that were heavily touted by the MSM were made up.

Indeed, it's extraordinary how many high profile "rape" cases that were heavily touted by the MSM were made up.

And notice, what made them "high profile" was that the accused were all middle-class men. They needed to make a story of respectable middle-class guys being closet rapists, so they could feed their meme of "ALL men are secretly rapists".

Going after real rape (knife to the throat, drag behind the bushes) would not have shown the right demographics.
