The cheap recharge costs is because you circumvent the gas tax. That won’t last.

Nah, the gas tax is only 42¢ per gallon on average, mostly state tax. I haven't done the calculation since the recent drop in gas prices, but before that electricity was at least 60% cheaper than gasoline on a per-mile basis. If you added 42¢ per gallon equivalent to EV owners' bills, it would still cost around half as much (using older gas prices).

In places where you can get time-of-use electricity (nighttime discount), it is even cheaper. I have found that almost everyone I talk to has time-of-use electricity available in their area.
