Makes perfect sense. You can’t pay the $50k medical bill; but somehow, you have the ~$10k for taxes.

If you stiff a hospital for $50,000 in medical bills, thats $50,000 of income you owe taxes on. Please point to me an indigent person, or a person who is eligible for Medicaid but doesn't have it say, who ever got an assessment from the IRS for written-off medical debt.
