SURABAYA, Indonesia/JAKARTA (Reuters) - A body recovered on Wednesday from the crashed AirAsia plane was wearing a life jacket, an official with Indonesia's search and rescue agency said, raising questions about how the disaster unfolded.

Rescuers believe they have found the plane on the ocean floor off Borneo, after sonar detected a large, dark object beneath waters near where debris and bodies were found on the surface.

Probably just some lone paranoid passenger afraid of crashing.

Question to anyone...

I haven’t flown over a large body of water in several decades.

In the past, the seat cushions doubled as flotation devices.

As I recall, so many passengers in test flights failed to get their vests on correctly or in a timely manner that American carriers gave up on life vests.

Has this changed?

That's racist.

I’ve crossed the Atlantic forty or fifty times....and yet to see some paranoid guy with a vest on. It just doesn’t happen.

In this scenario....it’d take roughly ten seconds for a guy to grasp the situation, reach under the seat, and don the life jacket. I would have my doubts that the plane disintegrated in the air....leaving no time for a guy to grasp the situation and don the jacket.

Not in my fairly recent experiences, although I've never actually checked if there were indeed vests under there. There's the video, usually [I think] actual attendants holding the things up for view, but otherwise... some things just aren't worth knowing, lol.

flights that go more than 50 miles from nearest shore require inflatable vests.

So a flight to Hawaii would have them

Passenger wearing lifejacked + plane seemingly mostly intact leads one to conclude they may have tried to ditch.

The story proposes that it crash landed on the ocean, giving a little time to get the life vest. As suggested was that there may have been icing on some key part. Even though the pilot had many hours of experience, how much experience with ice would he have had flying in the tropics??

The first picture I saw of one of the dead passengers was a man floating in just his underwear, taken from a rescue chopper.

That means he had to have taken his clothes off, which means either he did it while seated before the crash or he made it to the surface and stripped for swimming.

That photo at least gave me hope they would fine some live survivors.

It's common for plane crash victims to be naked, or in their underwear, when the plane has broken at high altitude. When the victim is falling loose clothing is ripped off their body.

This is evidence that the plane broke apart at a high altitude.
