The comments on the page are interesting. Many statists saying “driving is a privilege” etc. which is is. They are doing a license check, they take down your license. If you had an outstanding warrant, they would take you down, as they should on the basis of the license or the plates.
The basic premise is to avoid unlawful search and seizure which can occur. In FL concealed carry license is known (think it is cross referenced internally in the system- not publicly accessible), so they would know that also.
Remove the current “apple-world” view that “ if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear”-— because that is NOT true. The only way to contain a police state potential is removal of the process that puts an officer in the position of judging and handing out your rights, because too many think they should and that they are the arbiters. Interesting video.
Checkpoints of any kind are unconstitutional in my state (Washington), and there doesn’t seem to be any more carnage on the highways than any place else.
All agencies use the LEIN system (Law Enforcement Information Network). It’s country-wide. If you have a CPL (concealed pistol license, it will show up when they run your license number. So, if I were a CPL holder (darn, that tragic boating accident), I would also include the following:
“I have a registered S&W MP9. It is in the holster on my right hip”. And I would make darn sure to have my hands visible.
This looks like a good idea!
