Yeah.
Things are a little different now than they were 90 years ago. I don’t think the Chinese would wait ten seconds before wiping out the Japanese.

Their defense budget still isn’t all that big, IMO

Godzilla and Power Rangers... No one messes with Japan!

The headline is such BS. Japan’s defense spending is stuck at 1% of GDP, where it’s been for the last few decades. Meanwhile, China’s is 2.5x that amount in dollar terms and 2x in % of GDP terms. And Chinese military pay is way lower. The Japanese need to wake the heck up and understand that Uncle Sugar won’t always be there to protect them.

That should read “less than 1% of GDP”.

A day late and a dollar short.
Japan has borrowed and spent at least $1 trillion in the last 10 years on Keynesian stimulus.
Had they invested that in their military, maybe China would actually notice them.
That still would not be enough.
Without nuclear weapons, Japan is too small and too vulnerable to an oil blockade to be taken seriously as a military threat.
And, after 70 years of pacifism, you have to wonder how hard they will fight, too.
