Might want to think about setting up some password protection on your device next time, bud.

Any photo from any iPad or iPod device that use the same Apple account get synced and all photos end up on all devices.
That’s default settings.

Isn’t there a “find my phone” app for the iPhone and iPad? If so, they should be able to track this to where it currently resides.

Guy has his iPad stolen, but does NOT have a passcode set, then is surprised when "mysterious" photos appear in his iCloud account of guys showing wads of cash. Object lesson: SET YOUR PASSWORD and turn on FindMyiPhone or FindMyiPad so you can remotely lock your iDevice if it gets lost or stolen. This guy ignored those basic security steps, opting for convenience, instead of security and any hope of getting his iPad back! PING!

I have mine setup that way, one night I left it in a van at work. I knew where it was, so I checked on it several times that night, and the find my phone app worked great. It gave me the correct address, but as a side note, I believe, unless the devise has the 4G chipset it won't have the GPS chips in it.
It would have to connect to a wifi first to find it. I Mac mini works that way.

New information:
Selfie on stolen iPad helps Houston man ID suspects
Clarification: the headline implies they caught these guys. But, it just adds some additional information, like where the money came from.
HOUSTON (KTRK) --
A Houston man said he has his iPad to thank for identifying the men who he said stole thousands of dollars in cash and electronics from his truck.
"I think they felt elated that they got away with such a big score," said Randy Schaefer.
Last week, Schaefer said his truck was broken into. He said a bag was taken that contained a number of items including $5,000 in cash, a MacBook Pro laptop computer and an iPad.
"Just frustrated. I felt violated," said Schaefer. "I was frustrated and I just kind of wrote everything off as lost."
Until Friday morning, when Schaefer said he checked his iCloud photo stream and found 17 selfies taken by two men.
"At first I wondered who they were, and then within seconds I realized who they were and I saw that they had my money in their mouth," said Schaefer.
The photos showed the men holding stacks of $100 bills. In one photo, the men even put the bills in their mouths. They could be seen smiling and throwing up a "west side" gang sign.
YouTube video of the same people surfaced Friday night.

He immediately filed a police report but had little else to go on.
Cops will take action if:
1. The victim is a cop or family member.
2. There is a chance of a hefty fine or seizure.
3. There is an opportunity to kick some ass.
4. There is some publicity to be had.
With this story, number 4 has been achieved. The cops will now catch the "youths".
