Is a stereotype a stereotype when one keeps seeing pics like that over and over and over?

You’re exactly right. Now that you mention it they are all alike. Same stupid grinning up close to the lens, same flashing of bling, money, etc. usually gang signs. I suppose they see their friends seeing them. Their gang buddies are their audience. There’s about a gazillion of these photos with little variation.

It's when you can see what clearly true, right before your own eyes, in 3D,. . . IN STEREO!

All stereotypes exist because the attribute referenced has been observed in a significant fraction of an observed population.

The stereotype may spread beyond the locality where the attribute was observed and be unfairly applied to another similar population.

For example, every couple of weeks for a couple of hours I become a "person of Wal-Mart". I have never observed at first hand anyone resembling the famous "People of Wal-Mart", even in a mirror :)

Yet that stereotype, and evidence in the form of photos of the observed attributes, exists.
