Majority of Senate says climate change is real and human-driven

Most U.S. senators now agree on two things about climate change: That it is driven by humans, and that it is not a hoax.

Getting to that point during a series of votes on amendments for Keystone XL pipeline legislation was tortuous for Democrats and Republicans alike.

"I'm not sure that there were any clear expectations, but I think the way the day transpired was productive but it was also fascinating," Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, told reporters. "We made good progress today and we were pretty pleased there is an emerging bipartisan group of people who believe climate change is real, is caused by humans and is solvable."

Fifty senators, including five Republicans, agreed that climate change was real, human-induced and solvable on Schatz's amendment, though it failed because it needed 60 votes to pass. The Republicans who backed the amendment were Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Mark Kirk of Illinois and Susan Collins of Maine.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/230336-senate-gop-white-house-hopefuls-climate-change-not-man

“A trio of Senate Republicans eyeing the White House in 2016 on Wednesday went on record as saying climate change is not a hoax, but split on the question of whether human activity is causing it.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) all voted for an amendment to the Keystone XL pipeline bill that said climate change is real. In turn, they all voted against an amendment from Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) that said human activity “significantly” contributes to it.

In a third and final amendment vote, Paul backed a provision that said humans contribute to the changing climate. Rubio and Cruz voted no.

All three senators are all weighing presidential bids and eying a tough primary fight in what’s likely to be a crowded GOP field.

The votes could provide fodder for Democratic attacks if any of them win the GOP nomination, or against Rubio if he decides to run for reelection instead in 2016. Rubio has previously expressed skepticism towards the idea that man-caused climate change is settled science.

Paul’s vote on human-caused climate change could wind up being a liability with GOP primary voters, but could help burnish his reputation as a Republican who can appeal to Democrats.

There were some fissures in the GOP, however, in a vote designed by Senate Democrats to put their opponents on the spot. Sens. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) split with their party to vote for the amendment.

Kirk and Ayotte may face tough reelection campaigns next year. Kirk has voted in the past in favor of cap and trade legislation, and has a fairly centrist voting record on environmental issues. Alexander, Graham and Collins recently won reelection and have signaled they’re open to working on climate change legislation in the past. Graham has been talking up a potential presidential run, though few think he’ll take the plunge.

Other Republicans facing potentially tough reelection campaigns, including Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.), all voted against the amendment.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who in the past has expressed openness to working on climate change legislation, did as well. Murkowski may face a primary challenge in 2014.”

The true lies buried beneath the semantics.

http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/230316-senate-votes-98-1-that-climate-change-is-real

The Senate on Wednesday voted that “climate change is real and is not a hoax” as Democrats used the Keystone XL pipeline debate to force votes on the politically charged issue ahead of the 2016 elections.

The “hoax” amendment to the pipeline bill from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) passed 98-1, with only Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, the chairman of the Senate Republican campaign arm, voting “no.”

In a surprise, the Senate’s leading skeptic of climate science, Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), voted in favor of the amendment — but made clear he doesn’t believe humans are the primary driver of climate change..............

[SNIP]

Wednesday’s votes came after senators duked it out on the Senate floor in a wide-ranging debate over climate change and its relationship — or lack thereof — to the $8 billion pipeline project, which is undergoing federal review.

“It starts by admitting you have a problem, just like many other areas of human life,” Whitehouse said of Republicans’ skepticism on climate change.

Graham, who is mulling a White House bid, said the fact that climate change is real he “completely understand[s] and accept[s],” but as to the amount human are contributing, “I don’t know.”

“It does make sense that man-made emissions are contributing to the global warming effect — the greenhouse gas effect seems to me scientifically sound,” Graham said. “The problem is that how you fix this globally is going to require more than just the U.S. being involved.”

Graham has said in the past he believes climate change is occurring but scolded Democrats for using “gimmicks” and “tricks” that hurt their cause.

“You are undercutting a real genuine debate. You made climate change a religion rather than a problem. It is a problem,” Graham said...............”

Future historians will look back on this period in human history and call it the “Age of Enlightened Ignorance.”

And just 5 years ago a majority in the senate said, “if you like you doctor you can keep your doctor. If you like your insurance you can keep your insurance.”

No surprises there!

Climate change is very real and an established fact, beyond any doubt. It’s been operative on this earth since its beginning! What is the hoax is “Anthropogenic Global Warming” which has never been shown to be true!

The senators were right in affirming that Climate Change is true.

That whole article looks to be purposefully confusing, designed to be so, in order to give a wrong impression.

Here’s a quote from the article that is clearer and sums it up ...

— — — — —

In a surprise move, the Senate voted 98-1 to approve Whitehouse’s amendment that said climate change was “real and not a hoax,” largely because it lacked the caveat that humans caused it.

“The hoax is that there are some people that are so arrogant to think that they are so powerful that they can change climate. Man can’t change climate,” Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., said on the Senate floor.

— — — — —

The rest of the article is a confusing mess, and done so on purpose to confuse you.

As I said before, there is a reason that colonoscopies are more popular than Congress.

Funny, I think it would've been not brought up for a vote. Isn't that what Dingy Hairy Reed did to Republican proposals?

How is 50 out of 100 Senators a majority? Was this a real vote? One that needed a concrete resolution? It needed 60 votes to pass? Was it just an up/down majority vote? If so, what happened to tie-breaker lyin Joe B.?

So, we can “fix” “climate change”. What is the solution, and how much will it cost us?

Methane gas has increased 150% in the atmosphere since the mid 1700’s. (During the same time period, carbon dioxide has increased only 30 %.) A gram of methane gas has more than 25 times as much greenhouse gas impact as a gram carbon dioxide. As many know, flatulence, “farts,” are composed almost entirely of methane gas.

Therefore, Al Gore has developed a new program to combat this obviously increasing peril to our planet, and make a little money for himself at the same time.

It is called Fat Al’s Recycle Technology (F. A. R. T.).

Everyone will be required to wear a “F.A.R.T. meter,” (Cost $75, available only from Al Gore) which will record and automatically transmit to a new government agency (the Federal Automatic Recording Technology Department, The FART Dept.) the occasion of each fart and the volume thereof.

For an additional fee of $4,500, interested parties can purchase a fart capture device (available only from Al Gore). This 25 pound device can be conveniently worn under the special clothing available also from Al Gore in attractive shades of brown.

When full, the interested consumer can present his fart capture device to Al Gore’s recycling center, where for a fee of $0.10 per fart, the captured farts will be recycled into the US natural gas distribution system. Al Gore also will receive a modest fee of only $0.015 per fart for the energy content of the gas.

The interested consumer will also receive “fart credits” for the number of farts he recycles. These “fart credits” can be traded to other consumers, who elected not to purchase a fart capture device, through Al Gore’s Fart Trading Exchange. Al Gore will extract only a small commission of $0.01 per fart for each trade.

All Consumers will be required to be “fart neutral” by a “Cap and Trade” regulation, administered by the new FART Department.

Legislation is being developed as we speak, by the concerned former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and her erstwhile compatriot in the Senate, Harry Reid.

Get ahead of the mandated stampede to control this growing threat to our planet. Get you fart capture device now.
