State Persecuting 88-year-old Doctor Who Treats Poor From His Car

Doctors’ house calls are considered a thing of the past, but not in the appointment book of Dr. Carrol Frazier Landrum, an 88-year-old physician from Edwards, Mississippi. The good doctor will see you no matter who you are, where you are, or how much money you have — as long his 2007 Toyota Camry can deliver him to your location. But now his state’s medical board wants to see him gone.

Dr. Landrum, a WWII veteran, was forced to make a change after crime drove him from his Edwards, Mississippi, office two years ago, and he couldn’t find another space suited to his practice. "I had my car, and I realized I could do most everything out of it that I needed to be doing," said Landrum, according to the Clarion-Ledger. The paper continued, and “for many in [sic] the town of Edwards' 1,034 residents and others in the metro area, that car has become a lifeline — it's the makeshift office of the 88-year-old Dr. Landrum, who is the only practicing physician in the town.” advertisement

And many of the doctor’s trips take him beyond the town. The octogenarian — in practice for 55 years — sometimes drives 50 miles to meet people in their homes, in a parking lot, or by the roadside. It’s a vital service in Mississippi, the nation’s poorest state, where rural transportation is limited and an emergency room visit can spell financial disaster.

What motivates Landrum to keep this rigorous schedule at an age when most men are long retired? The Washington Post reported on January 14:

I read the article, and I don’t see anything in there that links the medical board’s determination of incompetence to the peculiar way the guy treats his patients. I wonder if there is more to it than what is posted here.

Yup...sure is! It's plain and simple.

This doctor has said FU to the government and they don't like it so they want to put him out of business! Can't have some country doctor proving that you can provide good medical care for a fraction of the price the government wants to charge.

The Time lord from the Dr.Who days is (sorry to say) all fiction. It was a TV show from England..

Now back to a possible reality. Try sending Obammy a way-back in the TARDIS, in a different time and dimension (humor intended of course).

Thought Tme Lords were a lot older than 88. How old is Doctor Who?

Dr Who, or Dr No?

Exactly, there is not enough information about whether this is government over reach or there are reasons he should not be practicing. Of course the 30,000 or signatories on the petition and no horror story of maltreated patient makes one lean his way.

There was a time that an MD would make housecalls. He carried a big black bag, and charged $5 per visit. (The same amount as my piano lessons at the time)! Too bad that druggies would rob these doctors of their black bags—which brings us up to today. :(
