Only a real idiot is pro war. You avoid wars by being strong. It’s is appeasers like Neville Chamberlain, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama who get us into the really big wars.

And even Chamberlain receives sort of a bad rap. The UK was nowhere near ready defend Poland, France, or even itself, at the time. The Royal Army at home was small, at peacetime levels, and the public actually believed that there would never be another world war.

Chamberlain knew this, even if the media didn't. It's become an article of faith that he was as much a stupid, naïve chickensh!t as Carter and Obama. Mildly unfair, really.
