Ive been a reporter for 30 years at CBS News, PBS, CNN and in local news. My producers and I have probed countless political, corporate, charitable and financial stories ranging from Iraq contract waste and fraud under Bush to green energy waste under Obama to consumer stories relating to the drug industry.
Some of these reports have been recognized for excellence in journalismmost recently, investigative Emmy nominations and awards for reporting on TARP, Benghazi, green energy spending, Fast and Furious and a group of stories including an undercover investigation into Republican fundraising. But the job of getting at the truth has never been more difficult.
Facets of federal government have isolated themselves from the public they serve. They covet and withhold public information that we, as citizens, own. They bully and threaten access of journalists who do their jobs, news organizations that publish stories they dont like and whistleblowers who dare to tell the truth.
When I reported on factual contradictions in the administrations accounts regarding Fast and Furious, pushback included a frenzied campaign with White House officials trying to chill the reporting by calling and emailing my superiors and colleagues, and using surrogate bloggers to advance false claims. One White House official got so mad, he angrily cussed me out.
The Justice Department used its authority over building security to handpick reporters allowed to attend a Fast and Furious briefing, refusing to clear me into the public Justice Department building. . .

Ping to Sharyl’s List upchuck!
Zer0’s treatment of the not so friendly press is appalling and quite Nixonian. He is hiding many things that would wreck his legacy during his trashing the country

Anyone who hasn’t read this or seen the video should do so without fail. Sharyl couldn’t be more correct about the _resident 0bama and his administration.
No conservative or even liberal Republican could have gotten away with 1/100th of what Obama does routinely.
The media doesn’t just protect him, they actively aid him.
I like her. She’s an honest journalist. A rarity these days.

Well well........ I had no Idea she had been at it for such a long time.
I’m truly impressed with her....... a living breathing journalist
I read her book, it had me spitting nails.
I couldn’t stand Obama before, now I really can’t stand him. Obama & the key players in his admin. should be in prison.
Sharyl
Attkisson
Ping!
Want on or off this ping list? Just drop me a FReep mail.
Amazon link to Sharyl's latest book.
Finally. A reporter who can live up to the real ideals of a free press. We should watch what happens to her very carefully.
There’s no doubt at all that he and the head thugs in his administration should be in prison.
I’m still hopeful some will wind up there, he and Holder are preferable.
We need names! Call out the names of these scum!!
He is many steps beyond Nixon. The future will hear the term Obamian.
One of the articles of impeachment against Nixon was he conspired to use the IRS to attack his political enemies.
Its been pretty well established Obama actually has big time and probably still does.
The WaPo? They're very interested in what kind of beer Obama was drinking prior to the Super Bowl.
Really. We all know how Barky is so solicitous of Vlad the journo-shooter, and admires him so genuinely (not that it's reciprocated: Remember how the Russians refused to shake his hand in that first meeting? They evidently don't like catamites [one for them]), so you're right that Atkisson needs to keep her ears peeled for footsteps behind her.
And she needs to pick up a piece, DC law or no DC law.
What she is saying applies to the full range of government entities, feds down to locals and many in between. Having spent a few years administering one of the ‘in between’ entities I can vouch for the attitude of ‘don’t let the public know’.
Sharyl is one of the last of the pure journalists. She deserves all of our support.
