My family would sometimes go there when I was a kid. It USED to be a nice place. Many nice places have been ruined by lowlifes across this country. Many parts of Pittsburgh are just sketchy thanks to inner city youths.
People say, get rid of public transit to the malls. Doing so will cut down on the number of feral yoots infesting the malls. But this region is heavily dependent on public transit. There's a significant population of older people, the disabled, those who can't afford wheels and those who simply don't like to drive. Discontinuing bus service will keep away most of the criminals, but it will also keep away good customers. Not good for malls already struggling under the Obama economy.
I hear a 17 yr old from Brackenridge was arrested for the shooting at the Monroville Mall. Last name is Thornhill.
They makes thousands of laws for law-abiding gun owners.
How about one simple rule for violent gangs. If you are a member, you get life. Period. No exceptions.
If you OC, you need no permit to do so, even if you are not a PA citizen.
Sounds good to me.
Odds are though this kid will serve time and get parolled. What a joke.
I agree...but to a large extent, they (PAT) had taken off some bus routes (from Wilkinsburg/East Liberty) that end of line at MM. A solution would be to expand Access type transportation for elderly, handicapped, and those who can’t drive.
Also, the KNOWN gang activity areas (Homewood, East Liberty, the Hill, Lincoln-Lemington, Wilkinsburg) need HEAVY policing and drug/illegal weapon sweeps. Look what Guiliani did in NYC...we DONT have leaders here in PA. We Dems and Squishy Rs. I wouldnt be surprised if Wolfie’s solution to be the time honored, democratic “mid night basketball.”
I truly hope that MM can be saved.
Why, they could be son and father.
This mall had a mob riot..Shheesh! Don’t call it a MOB riot. I doubt my good friends Guido and Tony Sarducci had anything to do with it. How about a TRIBAL riot?
Well, I take ACCESS part time and it has a bunch of problems. Before the program is expanded, it needs some serious fixes.
The city and other communities have added more police, but more police don’t help if the community doesn’t take a proactive stance against the criminal element. Many are fearful of retaliation, but I strongly suspect that most simply don’t care....until their child, parent, sibling is killed. Then they come out of the woodwork looking for “the government” to fix the problem. Their leaders like Al and Jesse encourage them in extracting more government freebies instead of getting them to really work on the problem themselves.
It does seem like EVERY program instituted by PA has its share of troubles.
I have to do my weekly unemployment job search (either tonight or tomorrow). I wonder how many MM retail jobs will be listed.
The building is still there but it is now offices for some large pharmaceutical outfit. The Monroeville Convention center is now located in another building a few hundred yards away.
Yeah, I know what you mean. You have to have eyes in the back of your head and be aware of your surroundings. At least in my father’s case, he learned that in Korea back in the 1950’s when he was on the 38th parallel. I usually carry my Bao Feng transceiver in my pocket, I’m an amateur radio operator, but I can tune in police, fire and ambulances on it since it is really designed as a walkie-talkie for the military and first responders.
I often joked, well semi-joked, where maybe they ought to ban mass transit but like you said it would hurt those who need it and are not criminals. I’ve seen some from the inner city where they toss out $50 and $100 bills like nothing and I’m some poor sap trying to make it by the skin of my teeth.
