Catherine Herridge from Fox, reported that she was traveling with her Syrian boyfriend when the car was forced off the road. Evidently there is evidence that the car was specifically targeted because she was in it. Both she and her boyfriend were taken hostage, but the boyfriend was released by ISIS. It was initially thought he was a part of the kidnapping but later proven not to be the case. At some point he went to ISIS and asked for her release but was refused. Alternate theory: the boyfriend was in on it, brought her to Syria, and hoped to get a big ransom payoff.

I agree with your theory. Oil isn't paying anymore, so they are falling back unto kidnapping. I can hear the media spin now. "Big Oil killed her!"
