The township wants to erect four more signs for a total of 16. Thirteen will be at all the points along roads where motorists enter the township. The other three are planned for boat landings. The signs together cost about $500.
Thats 16 dollars per sign. Not bad. They can sell them a $50 each and make a nice profit. (Oh, that horrible word. Excuse me you Liberal out there)
It surprises me though that they come that cheap.
A friend of mine took out a stop sign about 15 years ago and the county charged him about $250 to replace it. Accounting for inflation I figure at least $400 dollars to day.
Granted they would have to replace the stake and charge for man hours but I still think he must have been overcharged quite a bit. .
Your friend was lucky.
At least no one ran the missing stop sign intersection and got into an serious accident.
They would have charged him a with a bit more than $400.
There is a 1960s movie called "Carnival of Souls" that is considered the forerunner of the classic cult film "Night of the Living Dead". In the director's comments about the film, he mentions that in the scene where the car crashes through the bridge railing, (took out about 10 feet) he had to promise the local officials that he would pay for the repairs.
Later, he got a bill for $17.00.
