Sen. Cruz opposed the 2013 Senate immigration bill by proposing an amendment removing a pathway to citizenship. His purpose was to demonstrate that the Democrats were only concerned about creating new Democrat voters and not the welfare of the illegal immigrants. Sen. Cruz did not state that he supported granting any other rights to illegal immigrants.
But he did propose the bill, and not only are Americans not going to go for legal noncitizens in the long run, but as soon as they have American-by-birth babies here, they’re en route to citizenship anyway.
