House Speaker John Boehner on Sunday accused the White House of "animosity" towards Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, whose planned speech before the US Congress has stirred up a political furor in both countries.
Boehner defended his decision to invite Netanyahu to give an address on Iran's nuclear program before Congress next month, flouting diplomatic convention which says that such an invitation should have come from US President Barack Obama.
Boehner said he felt it was important to do an end-run around White House "interference," amid a raging debate over whether to soften sanctions on Tehran.
"I wanted to make sure that there was no interference," he said about his decision to issue the invitation to the Israeli leader.
"There's no secret here in Washington about the animosity that this White House has for Prime Minister Netanyahu," Boehner told the Fox News Sunday television program, adding, "frankly, I didn't want them getting in the way."
"It's an important message that the American people need to hear," Boehner, the top House Republican, added.
"I'm glad that he's coming and I'm looking forward to what he has to say."

That being said (at the risk of sounding like a concern troll—I hope Freepers know better), the invitation to Netanyahu could be (and I stress “could”) be the one masterful political move in his tenure.
Originally invited for 2/11, this may have more to do with O’s immigration executive order than the threat caused by Iran. After listening to Bibi speak, dems might be hardpressed to filibuster and shut down DHS because of the blowback from constituents. O might think twice about his veto promise. Not on principle, but because of blowback.
It might be why Boehner appeared to give no leeway when he kept insisting the House has done it's job. If DHS shuts down, does it mean no DHS or only essential employees remain? Don't know the answer to that one.
Now Bibi is coming in March. If DHS does shut down, I would bet the Senate dems drop the filibuster if an agreement had not been reached.
Then again, I might be giving Boehner for have more than 2 working braincells.

Well, Boehner deserves some support for this. But calling out Obama for “animosity” is more like the flick of a little finger than a “slam.”
And not a hint of what lies behind this—that Obama is a Muslim anti-Semite.

yes, it is amazing (and obviously distressing) just how little objection was heard when the Islamonazis (with, yes, their commie allies-for-the-present) seized control over the D party heaquarters apparatus. The D party had a longstanding difficulty with the communists but did usually succeed in fighting them back from taking control. Most of the time, you could (if you wished) vote for either party’s candidates without too much worry they were enemy agents (or sell-out traitors). Well, alas, but it isn’t our grandparents’ D party anymore. (And I’m not too happy with some of the R’s either...)
