Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama on Thursday called on Middle Eastern leaders to stand up to "violent extremism" and stop proxy wars that fuel the rise of terror groups.
"The notion that the West is at war with Islam is an ugly lie," he told the final day of a conference on combatting extremism. "And all of us, regardless of our faith, have a responsibility to reject it."
Obama challenged Middle Eastern powers to stop actions that he claimed have stoked the rise of Islamic State, Al-Qaeda and others.
Fighting between Sunnis and Shia "will only end when major powers address their differences through dialogue and not through proxy wars," he said.

well yeah, he’s actually right. but only cause we have our heads in the sand. but they are at war with us and that is where he is delusional. I think Krauthammer said the other day, Obama would refuse to call Nazis Nazis because they weren’t true socialists or they used a perverted form of nationalism.....as if the semantics are what matters. couldn’t agree more
The truth is that Islam is at war against the West.

In this case, Obama is actually correct. The West is not at war with islam but islam is at war with the West, and any other civilization, so technically, he is not lying, at least on this matter.
He is absolutely correct.
The entire world is at war with Islam, including the Muslim nations of the world.
Good try. Here is what Allen West actually said: “We must understand their concept of returning the Mahdi, the hidden Imam, and what that means for the global Islamic revolution and global conquest.”
The POTUS has absolutely no right to define, defend or promote any religious beliefs, which is what he is doing. But a POTUS does have the responsibility to protect the American people from threats to our safety and security, REGARDLESS, of the threat, even if it comes from his own religion.
He is absolutely correct about this as well.
The rise of Islamic fundamentalism has largely been funded by the House of Saud on one hand and Iran on the other.

Obama’s personal identification with Islam is palpable. He is personally offended by criticism of Islam. It’s his father, it’s his stepfather, it’s his childhood, it’s his schooling, it’s his upbringing, it’s his soul. This is what the founders were thinking about when they stipulated that the president needs to be a natural born citizen.
Obama is mistaken. The notion that the West is at war with Islam is not “an ugly lie”, it is an overgeneralization.
The West is in a hot war with Salafism, and a cold war with Ta’ajili or “Hastener” Twelver Shia Islam, and perhaps also with non-salafi movements like Hizb ut Tahrir that also seek to reestablish a Sunni Caliphate. We are not at war with orthodox non-hastener Twelver Shia Islam, Ismaeli Islam, nor with the variants of Sunni Islam that are content to live under regimes like that of King Abudullah II of Jordan or General al-Sisi of Egypt, or with the variety of Sunni Islam practiced by the Kurds — all of these latter are allies in our hot war with Salafism and (simply by dint of being Sunnis) in our cold war with the Ta’ajili running Iran.
Unfortunately the west is not at war with Islam. Islam, jhowever, is at war with everyone else, including the west.
