"Many popular films dealing with Vietnam such as Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Good Morning, Vietnam, Rambo and Full Metal Jacket serve as great entertainment, Botkin said, but they often grossly distort the reality of the warriors who fought courageously to stop the spread of communism."
If Full Metal Jacket would have stopped at the end of boot camp, it would have been a great movie. I did not think that 'The Deer Hunter' was an anti Vietnam Movie. On the contrary, I thought it protrayed people's emotions about the war in a very realistic light. I thought the ending (with them all singing God Bless America in the bar) was a very pro American message. Which was very brave at the time (1978) when you consider that being pro American was not exactly in vogue.

“when you consider that being pro American was not exactly in vogue. “ Seems like in a lot of circles in 2015 it isn’t exactly in vogue either. :>}

For every positive movie (The Green Berets, We Were Soldiers), or correspondent (Joe Galloway) there were dozens that smeared the war and the vets.
And for the junior officers, we only hear of john fraud kerry instead of real heroes like Rick Rescorla, Joe Marm, Bruce Crandall, Ed Freeman, and the hundreds of others who selflessly served.
