It's tempting to blame African-American social ills on the modern welfare state, which allegedly breeds idleness. But most poor black households are poor despite having at least one adult who works.

Interestingly, I did a few rough calculations based on 30% of whites and 72% of blacks being born out of wedlock and blacks being 13% of population... the percentage of children born out of wedlock that are black is not that far off from the percentage of welfare recipients that are black.
