Report: Schweich believed he was target of smears prior to death

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KTVI) – Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich died Thursday as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 54.

Clayton Police Chief Kevin Murphy said officers were called to the auditor’s home in the 7100 block of Wydown Boulevard just before 9:50 a.m. for a reported gunshot victim.They found Schweich on the floor of his residence with a single bullet wound. Chief Murphy would not disclose where the gunshot wound occurred.

Schweich was rushed to Barnes Jewish Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

One thing pricks my curiosity though;
“ Schweich allegedly told Messenger that John Hancock, chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, had spread misinformation by saying Schweich was Jewish.”

Unless Missouri has a huge Arab voting block I do not know of, what difference would his being Jewish make? Very puzzling.

I heard some of the primary ads that were running against him. They were pretty harsh, it seemed. Accused him of being a tool of Clair McCaskill, weak, and a sure loser against the Democrat opponent for governer. Sad

If this is connected to politics, even though I would think one would have to be a bit unbalanced to kill oneself over this, it’s a black eye to the Missouri GOP and that Todd Akin incident was another negative instance as well. Surely, the party shouldn’t be at each others’ throats in this manner.

From what I read, he was Jewish? Which to me is a plus. I don’t know why he reacted the way he did. It doesn’t make sense.
