Bangladeshis Protest After Atheist Writer Avijit Roy Hacked To Death Hundreds rally against fundamentalism in Dhaka as Islamists claim responsibility for murder of prominent US-Bangladeshi blogger
Bangladeshi secular activists take part in a torch-lit protest against the murder of Avijit Roy, founder of the Mukto-Mona (Free-mind) blog site. He had received death threats from Islamists before arriving in the country. Saad Hammadi in Dakha and Mark Tran Friday 27 February 2015 Hundreds of people have taken to the streets of Dhaka in protest at the murder of a prominent secular American blogger of Bangladeshi origin who was hacked to death with machetes after he allegedly received threats from Islamists.
Avijit Roy and his wife, Rafida Ahmed, were attacked on a crowded pavement as they were returning from a book fair at Dhaka University. Ahmed, who is also a blogger, lost a finger and remains under treatment at the Square hospital in Dhaka.
The attack took place about 8.45pm on Thursday evening when a group of men ambushed the couple as they walked toward a roadside tea stall, with at least two of the attackers hitting them with meat cleavers. The attackers then ran off into the crowds. Two blood-stained cleavers were found after the attack, said police.
A tweet from Ansar Bangla 7, a previously unknown fundamentalist group, said: “Anti-Islamic blogger US-Bengali citizen Avijit Roy is assassinated in capital #Dhaka due to his crime against #Islam.”

Bangladesh is one of those countries to/from which the US Government should extremely restrict travel.
He’s more likely to have met God, than the devout Muslims who hacked him to death ever will. It may have been a big surprise for him — but, not as big a surprise as awaits his killers.

Some day atheists will wish the Christians that they mocked and vilifies were in charge. Muslims don’t take to mocking very well, and they have dull knives and machetes.
That’s what the last Christopher Hitchens understood. He knew that Muslims hated atheists much more than Christians.
That tiny minority of non-muslim muslims sure gets around doesn’t it?

What suffering for their victims, I thought, when I first realized they don’t seem to believe in guillotines.
There is a part of me that hopes that when Avijit dies, God will cut him some slack and maybe even gives him a chance to accept Christ when he is at the gates rather than just shutting him out of heaven because he was an atheist in this world. Now, I get that Christian denominations teach that you have to accept Christ as your savior in this life to get to heaven and certainly there’s a good chance that Avijit will be unqualified for heaven. But that part of me hopes that God would take into account two things: 1. He grew up in a culture and mindset where free access to the Gospels and the opportunity to really understand them was nonexistent. Nobody was both able and willing to truly share the Gospel with this man. 2. He ultimately gave his life to support freedom of conscience here on earth.
Now again, I realize how likely it is that he is ultimately unqualified for heaven. But there remains this part of me that sort of hopes God would take into account these circumstances.
I’m sure that both Obama and Kerry will send a strong protest letter to his murderers.
