A BLM officer pretty much is impersonating a law officer. This is another level of government beuarocracy that should be outright eliminated. Along with about 40% of the other Federal Departments.

...a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) officer was mistaken for a man impersonating an officer...

That's what they do, isn't it?

These creeps are all over the mountains.

Used to be you would see forest rangers in little green uniforms in little green pickups, and they were there to be helpful with camping tips, directions, weather warnings, etc.

Now they grind around in big 3/4 ton pickups with light bars and sirens...and the dumbass undertrained overpumped jockos inside the vehicles carry shotguns, sidearms, clubs and mace.

I was up fishing one day and spotted a dead goose in a beaver pond area...for weeks I had been seeing a goose and his mate there, suggesting a nearby nest.

Well this goose was floating dead, and when the muscleboys showed up in their big pickup I told them I had passed this spot an hour or so before and hadn’t seen the dead goose.

They were jawing and conferring and they were trying to diagnose the goose with a pair of binoculars. I said, “You guys have fishing waders?”

No. No. They both agreed no.

“I have a couple pairs you want to use mine?”

Conferring, jawing, no, no.

“Do you want ME to go out there and bring it back?”

Conferring, muttering, shrugging. No that shouldn’t be necessary.

“Well I guess the investigation is over then. Good luck.”

Shoot, boys, leave the kevlar behind for a day and throw in some boots and waders...important brainstorming there, some serious gumshoe work going on...what a clusterfork.

It was only recently that BLM officers gunned a man down on the highway near Las Vegas. He was unarmed; I don’t remember anyone making a big stink about it though.

I’m looking for the politician who is prepared to defund BLM or at the very least cut it up and hand it off to the states for them to do as they like, either fund or dismantle.

“The Tombstone Marshal’s Office”

I read that and the first thing that popped into my mind was Wyatt Earp.

Approach me in a confrontational manner, out of uniform and unidentified and you won’t be the only one with a gun in his hand.

BLM Officers are federal officers and therefore have full authority to pull over anyone, cite and arrest people. If you are cited by a BLM or any other federal officer, your citation goes to the US District Court in Tucson.

Give someone a uniform and some sort of authority and many become gods in their own minds. Some years ago, while fishing a local pier, a couple guys in khaki pants/shirts came up and w/o a word began opening and digging through folks' coolers. I asked what they were doing (I didn't have a cooler as i was "nice weather by the water fishing" and didn't intend to keep anything) and one told me to shut up because they had the authority to check for illegal fish. I mentioned that not identifying first seemed to be a pretty dangerous way to do it as all fishers had knives and a number might be legally armed. Was asked if it was a threat, because if it was they would "run me in". I smiled and said it was just good advice - if they were smart enough to take it. They got miffed and kicked a few coolers around which, along with my conversation, got some other folks riled up and they ended up wishing us a good day and left with half the job undone. In today's climate, they might well have gotten really belligerent to a bad outcome.

I was a federal Border Patrol agent for 25 years.

I had no authority to enforce state and local laws. My authority began and ended with limited federal statutes. Titles 8 and 18 to be precise.

I had limited Title 21 (durge enforcement) and Title 19 (customs laws) which was specifically delegated to the INS by DEA and US Customs. Last time I checked there are no federal agents which have general arrest authority to arrest for any violation of federal law much less state laws.

If I stopped someone for speeding there is nothing I could do with them as there is no federal statute I could enforce. We had no federal ticket books.

If I observed a felony while on duty for an offense not covered by my authority all I could do was to temporarily detain the suspect and call the agency with jurisdiction to come and get him.

Some here are making light of BLM officers acting as forest cops. Google “Ken Marcus El Dorado” and find out what one can do to make your life miserable

El Dorado county in Kali had a MOU with BLM to enforce state laws. Officer Marcus specialized in his own personal quest to play Barney Fife of the forest. He generated hundreds of complaints to the El Dorado Sheriff till finally the MOU was canceled and he was reassigned to Southern CA.

His specialty was confiscating any firearm he could get his hands on and write up anyone he encountered for the most trivial of reasons. A real attitude power trip type. He made Barney Fife look good.
