The Benghazi Committee's Belated Interest in Hillary's Hidden E-mails
National Review ^ | 3/7/2015 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 03/08/2015 6:31:41 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

Chairman Trey Gowdy knew about Clinton’s secret server six months ago, and that too is a scandal.

In assessing the Benghazi select committee headed up by Chairman Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.), there are two possibilities, and they are not mutually exclusive: (1) The committee is just a Potemkin probe erected by the Republican establishment to get restive conservatives to pipe down, and (2) the committee is incompetent.

The panel, of course, was commissioned by the Republican-controlled House to investigate the circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2012, attack in which al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists killed Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three other Americans — information-management officer Sean Smith and two former Navy SEALs, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, contract employees whose valor saved dozens of lives during the siege.

The select committee’s ten sleepy months of operation have not warranted much attention — except to observe its lethargy. But questions about it arise thanks to the newly erupted Hillary Clinton e-mail scandal. Mostly, it is one question: Why is the scandal newly erupted?

The Benghazi massacre was the lowlight of Mrs. Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state. Suddenly this week, the public was informed, for the first time, that during those four tumultuous years, she conducted State Department business through a private e-mail system designed to evade government record-keeping requirements. The scheme is redolent of Clintonian hypocrisy: (snip)

Gowdy let something else slip while unburdening himself to Politico: he and his committee have known since last summer that Mrs. Clinton conducted business by private e-mail.

Andy McCarthy has a hard-hitting article on Trey Gowdy's Benghazi Committee. He asks some very good questions and one wonders exactly what has Gowdy been up to?

Just the fiery outrage we’ve come to expect from Congressman Gowdy. But for all the big wind, there never seems to be much rain.

People should really lay off Trey Gowdy. He is a very, very successful ex-prosecutor and he is going to conduct his investigation based on that experience. Some will not like that. Some will want daily or weekly headline grabbing releases or leaks by the committee and will be satisfied with nothing less.

Not me.

I trust Gowdy more than anyone else in the House. If he can't pull this off then nobody can. Anyone with a better choice to head this committee should speak up.

So I'm going to wait it out and watch the drip, drip, drip of disclosures when we get to the open meetings. Trey Gowdy will be ready. Will the witness? Time will tell.

I'm thinking Clintonmail.com had to be the best known secret in Washington & The MSM.

Did the emails she has turned over have her address redacted?

And then the Imam in the White House says, "Duh, I Learned About It From Watching TV." ...he & Hillary didn't email ever?

Whatever was going on at the “annex” in Benghazi was supported (secretly) by the GOP leadership, and they are as interested as Hillary! in covering it up.

BINGO! Money line for all of the “investigations” into this admiration. Gowdy looks & sounds great, but it, like all Republican “investigations” is really more sound & fury than anything else. Kabuki Theater.

Gowdy and Issa have said a lot, but I’m waiting on results.

I think it’s the first one.

The GOP exists today to block conservatives, not represent them.

.....fiery outrage from Congressman Gowdy........but for all the big wind, there never seems to be much rain.......

I believe Gowdy's reactions are dictated from the top---from GOpee'rs. He can't look too Republican......can't do or say anything "judgemental."

SORRY DARELL---I was very critical of Cong Darell Issa when he headed the committee looking into Lerner. But when he left, it came put that he was instructed not to overreact...not to do anything that smacked of mean-spirited "Republicanism."

Whatever Rep Gowdy’s performance, intention and conduct of the Benghazi are or are not, ANYTHING that helps derail Hillary! candidacy is a good thing!

This is Trey Gowdy - big bluster, but in the end, he’s carving out a long time Washington career for himself. He will ruffle some feathers for show, but he will never pluck them, let alone kill the goose.

I trust Gowdy more than anyone else in the House.

Been there, done that....guarantee you'll retract this sentiment at some point. (sad as that is to consider)

Andy McCarthy is also a very, very successful ex-prosecutor. And he asks some very good questions of Gowdy's handling of this investigation that demand answers.

Daily? Weekly? This has been SIX MONTHS and Gowdy acts like he just found them! C'mon Man!

OK. Maybe so. Who's your favorite?

None is not a good answer. There is always a best even if the margin is small.

You missed my point. I’m not interested in “who my favorite is” - the point is, I have inside info here and you’ll not like how it turns out. Gowdy has an agenda, and it is not your agenda.

It is my understanding that Trey has been very supportive of Lindsey Graham. And that Graham mentions Gowdy as a possible Supreme Court nominee frequently.

Actually, more than that...Andy McCarthy is a FAR MORE successful ex-prosecutor than Trey Gowdy......
