Standing armies are always turned inward.
History is littered with examples.
The wonder is that it took so long to happen in the US.
Armed citizens with a long history of freedom has pushed monsters out and kept totalitarians at bay for a few hundred years... Let's hope the system holds for a few hundred years more....
