in the late 80’s, I worked as a staff analyst for the WA state senate’s Natural Resources committee. EarthFirst! was indeed real (spotted owl days) and used to lobby us regularly. As well as testify on legislation (we used to take bets on how long it would be into their testimony that security would have to remove them).
One of their news letters caught my imagination.
They were looking for like minded people with terminal illnesses to strap explosives to themselves and take out large, environment harming structures. Like Grand Coulee Dam, etc.
