A priest at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital was praying over a woman critically injured by gunfire after she rammed three deputies with a car at the end of a 20-mile pursuit, her mother said Friday.

Although the chance of survival was not good for Karen Janks, 46, a former San Francisco resident who recently moved to Santa Cruz, she was still holding on and “has a very strong heart,” said her mother Gail Janks, 73, of San Mateo.

Trying to run over police officers is not good for your health nor the officers (three were injured). They followed her for more than 20 miles and put out spikes for her. Unless she was insane, which is possible, she knew the police were after her.

Her mother doesn't understand, but this youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyILtsfgDis shows that she is not well, and likely messed up on drugs. There were several complaints about her work at her mother's office on a business review site YELP, but they have been removed.

Sounds like she could use a priest praying over her, especially if she’s unlikely to recover. As you say, it sounds as if her life was badly screwed up. Maybe drugs or something.

These things are always sad and very scary. They are the result of poor choices anyone of us is vulnerable to.

“They used to call that “Extreme Unction” when I was young.”

Yes, but no one who reads the paper would know what that means.
