>>>also worthy of note is that people are buying stuff online<<<
Personally I love Amazon. More choice. Good prices. Usually no sales tax. And you don’t have to put up with crowds. I’m a man obviously and there is no thrill to shop for me. I bet many men are exactly like me. And in today’s world there are so many more men shopping than before.

Pet store quality dog food is cheaper on Amazon than in the local feed store. Plus free shipping and zero sales tax makes it a bargain.
UPS just drops the big bag at my doorstep - now there’s convenience and I no longer have to drive to park and go into the store to buy what I need.

The only thing I shop for now and halfway enjoy it is food and wine. If I have time I browse the grocery store or upscale market. Most everything else from books and music to clothes and small appliances is online. I usually have to make one trip to a mini-mall at Christmas, which is good because it serves to remind me why I shop online.

I buy all my clothes through them and shoes (though I don't buy clothes or shoes except when the wear our.) Also computer stuff and I get all my ebooks from them for my Kindle/Fire Phone. We have Amzon Prime and watch their movies and listen to all that great music. I even buy seeds for my garden from them with free points from bing rewards and all the other rewards deals that give Amazon gift cards.
I hope they stay in business because I have no idea how to replace all the things they do for me.

You described me to a tee. I can find exactly what I want online, buy with a few clicks, have it delivered to our house or to an Amazon “locker” nearby, and never have to set foot I a store. I love it!
