You can call it a bureaucratic blunder or a Washington blooper.
But any way you slice it a move by the federal government to make the city remove Times Squares iconic billboards falls in the category of whose bright idea is this?
It is known as the Crossroads of the World, the Center of the Universe and the Great White Way, but Times Square could become like the Black Hole of Calcutta if the federal government has its way, CBS2s Marcia Kramer reported Tuesday.
The feds say many of Times Squares huge and neon-lit billboards must come down or the city will lose about $90 million in federal highway money.

” lesser evils”
One would think people would realize that evil is evil.
“Were not going to be taking down the billboards in Times Square. Were going to work with the federal government and the state and find a solution, Trottenberg said.”
Good luck on that. You’re about to discover that under obama there’s only one way. His way or the highway.

Re: “Watch out Las Vegas, theyre coming for you.”
If Nevada replaces Reid with anyone but a Democrat next year, you are absolutely correct. But, if it stays on the plantation, it will not happen, at least not to Vegas. Reno, maybe, but never Vegas. It’s a total Democrat town with lots of union money.

And NY aint????
Few words, deep thought.
New York, and all 56 others, as well.
In fact, 'go to hell' should suffice as an all purpose response to almost every other interaction the federal government seeks with us as individuals. Until they recommit themselves to living within the constraints of the Constitution.
You can thank “Lady Bird” for de-cluttering Times Square!
I havent been out of the state in years so I can only judge by fairly local standards
Billboards were banned entirely in my county some years ago
they dont get much play in rural or “scenic” areas here either
closer in to cities...theyre “allowed”
who knows that these morons want to try to do to the free market in NYC!
Imagine what you’ll know tomorrow...
Perhaps my favorite quote of all time.
Nothing really bright about Reno, accept it’s the best odds in the world for gambling.
here’s a thought...give up the 90mil.
when you think about the signs it might be an even trade...who would go to Times Square without the signs? Loss of tourist $$’s? Loss of 90mil?
Hmmm
From the article:
“There are some who say that if the feds really wanted to beautify Times Square they might try getting rid of some of the Elmos, Kramer reported.”
What’s an Elmo. Is that a new dog whistle word like thug?

See post #5.
It isn’t a goof. It’s a gauge of reaction.
Chesterton, after a moments silent gazing at the millions of electric lights, turned to his friends and remarked, How beautiful it would be for someone who could not read.
