You can call it a bureaucratic blunder or a Washington blooper.
But any way you slice it a move by the federal government to make the city remove Times Squares iconic billboards falls in the category of whose bright idea is this?
It is known as the Crossroads of the World, the Center of the Universe and the Great White Way, but Times Square could become like the Black Hole of Calcutta if the federal government has its way, CBS2s Marcia Kramer reported Tuesday.
The feds say many of Times Squares huge and neon-lit billboards must come down or the city will lose about $90 million in federal highway money.

Re: “It isnt a goof. Its a gauge of reaction.”
Maybe not, but I still don’t believe the Democrat capital of the World, the Liberal Mecca, will ever have this enforced against them. At worst, it’s just a shakedown for more money for the DNC.
Maybe not. But the first thing a leftist does once he amasses what he believes is sufficient power is to oppress his own people end enforce loyalty. Then the useful idiots die.
I agree with you that eventually that will happen, but I don’t believe they would start with their own first. They’ll go after the Red States first or some smaller towns that traditionally vote conservative. That would get all the useful idiots to back them up because the New York liberals would love to see that happen to the peasants.
After that is done, THEN they’ll go after the idiots who supported this tyranny.
This “law” actually stems from a first amendment lawsuit where a man who had a large billboard on his private property and next to on I-5 between Vancouver and Washington and Seattle posted anti government messages. I remember seeing these messages back in the late 60’s and he or his family are still posting them today.
He won the lawsuit but the fed reaction was to force states into removing the signs and billboards or lose their share of fed highway funds.
The “law” applies to any roadway that is eligible for federal funding which includes city streets classified as a collector or higher.
Hitler and Stalin both started with their own. Chicoms always did. They need 100% loyalty through fear.
By that time it will be waaaay too late.
People dressed in character costumes who pose for pictures with tourists for money. They’re about as welcome as the people who attack your windshield with a squeegee.
That’s interesting. I drive by that dude’s place all the time, and its a hoot looking what he’s put up. Its the best part of the trip. He’s always dissing Bath House and the dems.
Do you have any more info on that lawsuit? I’d be interested in looking it up.
They are on a mission to create a world of “Replicants”
Torn on this.
Hate big brother orwellian micromanagement.
However it is fitting that liberal nyc gets screwed by fedgov liberals.
Note they can tell fedgov to kiss off. Id have a little respect for them if they actually did.
In this case, his way, or no highway (money).
Kaiser Wilhelm vs. Caliph Baraq.
You gotta love when Communists fight each other.
Every iota is about control, nothing more, nothing less. These people ought to all be stripped of citizenship and shipped to Siberia, white *ouse occupants included.
Guess Chesterton didn’t like seeing Lunt & Fontanne’s names up in lights? Or just a typical anti-capitalist Brit? Times Square was wonderful in his day. Even King Kong loved it.
“Do the billboards In NYC...block a lot of fantastic VEIWS? are they restricting Forest Growth ???”
No, they can be used to broadcast messages. With everything going on, think about that for a minute.
