Define Christian. In this context maybe it’s a good thing. Used to be people thought christian was just another word for American.
“The decline in traditional religious belief adds to the demographic challenges facing the GOP, which already faces difficulties because of its reliance on white voters in a country that has grown more racially diverse.”
I detect a racist causation by the writer. So it helps to be white in order to be Christian? The writer obviously views with glee the fading of `Norman Rockwell’s America’ (i.e. mostly white).
He fails to take into account that Christian belief is flourishing among blacks, Hispanics, Koreans and that not belonging to a mainstream church doesn’t mean one doesn’t belong to an independent Christian congregation, as noted.
Some urban liberal secularist wishful thinking, IMO.
In view of the intolerance and hostility displayed by so many of the “respected” institutions in this territory once known as “the United States of America”, maybe a lot of the respondents are either not responding to the question, or decline to answer they are Christian, because of perceived belief they shall face ridicule.
