So Taylor was reared in a wealthy not a coal-mining family and this means she can’t make music, Salon?

Does it matter where she started out? She appears to be working hard in her current career and as a result, she has things.

Dear Salon,

Jealousy is not a family value.

It used to be that parents worked hard to give their kids advantages, and that this was seen as a positive. This has become a negative with regressives.

There’s a lot of talent out there. With money or not in their portfolio, is a daunting task to make it big.

The woman obviously has talent. She has fans for a reason.

I don’t really care if she came from wealth or the streets.

This class envy crap being shoveled by the railroad car here is nonsense.

Leftists want an even playing field for women, minorities, and those who don’t come from much.

They sure have a funny way of showing it. Everything is either sex, wealth, or race related. If we’re supposed to think in terms other than these, why is it these things are all the media talks about?

I’m not a big music lover, but I really like a some of Swift’s songs.

At least I used to until I realized how unfair all this is. (Massive) /S

Liberals have this problem about “roots”. They think no one can rise above (or evidently below in this case) their roots. The government needs to intervene in all cases. When a Ben Carson or Clarence Thomas comes along they are branded as Uncle Toms. Stereotypes are what liberals are always using to accuse the right as racist, but this article indicates stereotypes can be used by the left at their leisure.

The album has now sold more than 4 million – the kind of number we thought, in the age of file-sharing, we’d never hear again.

Wow, a whole 4 million in album sales. That gives us a good indication of just how much "sharing", or outright theft of copyrighted music is going on these days. In the past, a fair number of smash hit albums would sell 20 million or more, and each year had it's share selling in the 10 million plus range.

So much 'sharing' going on out there.

I don’t get this article. The bio of Taylor Swift is both interesting and even inspiring. The author seems to be desperately seeking some unexplored angle of elitism to denigrate this performer. If you have to try this hard to dig for dirt, hey, maybe there is no dirt. Good for you Taylor! Her success doesn’t bother me. Why indeed should it? Just don’t go all Bette Midler or Cher on us, preaching about how we the public should live our lives.

1. She’s sexy without being slutty.
2. Her family’s love can be replicated by many with less resources.
3. She works hard and is not a brat.

Her biggest fault i see is she supports Killery??? Otherwise, continued success. She is an amazing talent.

And what better way to reconcile the contradiction – to inject a bit of rebel cool into the story – than to make a millionaire daughter of the plutocracy into an underdog?

That's the template.

I was reading an article in the gym about Paul Simon. The writer really played up the idea that nobody thought he would succeed after Art Garfunkel left to pursue an acting career, and how wonderful it was that Paul Simon triumphed against the odds and in spite of everything.

Believe me. Nobody thought Simon was the one who was going to have career problems after the break-up. Probably nobody thought he'd be the one with problems after he and Carrie Fisher broke up either.

Uh Oh, they’re going after Taylor Swift

She’ll have to come out in vocal support of gay marriage and socialism to not have them ruin her career.

So let’s acknowledge that she began life with a slight leg up on the privilege escalator.

In other words, lets disparage the success of her family and diminish her success by belittling the very reason people form civilizations -- so that our children are better off than we are.

But if you are a "you didn't build that" zombie, it makes perfect sense to envy and disparage success.

But this kind of thing is especially offensive since there have actually been plenty of musicians who really were underdogs. Johnny Cash was raised by poor cotton farmers during the Great Depression. John Lennon’s mother and father abandoned him. Jimi Hendrix’s early life was a nightmare that involved shoplifting food so he could eat. For decades, the average blues and country musician came from poverty or close to it. Billie Holiday was jailed, as a teenager, for prostitution. And so on.

The writer of this piece may be an urbanite liberal hack, but I have to say this: he gets this absolutely right.

In a similar vein, most of those who are crying racism and bigotry today are doing a massive disservice too true victims of racism and bigotry. Black citizens of the sixties suffered under the bigotry of Democratic Party all over the United States. THEY were victims.

Swift’s family are good people who worked for a living. I know of them here in PA. They’ve been to my office building to meet with a friend who runs a real estate office.

That they sacrificed for their daughter and that she made it and is now wealthy, is how it is done.

Jealous much?

Also the worship of underprivileged. Let’s not always glorify poverty. It can be intelligence that causes the avoidance of poverty, remember. Of course it’s the American Dream to start out humbly poor and rise to success. But it is also worthy of admiration to do good with what you have, at any socioeconomic level. And Taylor Swift is doing so. She is a success. She happens to be white. Deal, Salon.
