I’ve long been a military history buff...especially WW2. As I have watched every one of those History Channel Heroes Channel every other channel documentary I can find over the years, many of them several times - the kind of hero it took to do what was done on Normandy, in the rubble of European towns, on the islands off the coast of Japan - I am amazed and humbled. Where do we get such men.

Then I talk to a doctor who sees a lot of marines, Air Force and army soldiers from the myriad of military bases in eastern NC, and she talks about how many of them, even the marines, are gaming the system now for disability with faked injury. Sees it all the time.

Makes me think...maybe we don’t get such men any more. Or not as many.
