Virginia's False 'Centrist' Advertising

The latest scorecard from the American Conservative Union is out, and the voters of Virginia might want to file a complaint about truth in advertising with the press corps. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner have routinely been portrayed in news reports as "moderates" and "centrists." But after two years in the Senate, Tim Kaine has a perfect zero on the conservative scale. Mark Warner has a lifetime score of 10.33 percent conservative, but his last two annual scores have been a 4 and an 8. They could be mistaken for Barbara Mikulski.

Far-left is middle of the road on the media spectrum. The Washington Post has been especially guilty of suggesting over the years that Kaine was as pious as conservative stalwart Ken Cuccinelli, a man they place on the "far right." In 2012, the Post profile of his GOP opponent George Allen suggested he was seen as a "colossally insensitive brute," but this is how the Post began a Kaine profile:

"It's not unusual, on an election-year Sunday, to find a white candidate in a black church. But Tim Kaine, swaying this month to the gospel groove at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in a poor Richmond neighborhood, wasn't on the campaign trail. He was taking a break from it at his home parish."

Tim Kaine has a perfect 100 score from the NARAL folks, and a perfect 100 with the gay-left Human Rights Campaign. But to the Post, he's practically the pope's right hand, swaying in the pews at Mass. A few weeks ago, Kaine and Warner signed a letter to the HHS Secretary (with other liberals like Barbara Boxer) complaining about insurers failing to provide proper payment for contraceptives through Obamacare.

The Post did this in 2005, too, when Kaine first ran for Governor: "Kaine, the Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia, said that teaching at a fledgling Jesuit school in El Progreso [Honduras] gave his life direction, inspiring him to public service and rekindling his devotion to Catholicism."

When the Post touts your deep Catholic roots as positive, it probably means you're a liberal opposed to Catholic orthodoxy.

Mark Warner also scores 100 on the libertine-left scale at NARAL and HRC. When Warner first announced a campaign for the Senate in 2007, Anita Kumar of The Washington Post pitted him against former Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore this way: "Do they prefer a social conservative who cut taxes but left a deficit, or a centrist businessman who balanced the budget but raised taxes?" He was "pro-business," not liberal.

In another story, Post reporters wrote "Warner, 52, a self-described moderate Democrat, will make his announcement in an e-mail to supporters Thursday."

So if he described himself so falsely, why didn't the Post expose him? Because the Post subscribes to the falsehood.

When he was endorsed by former Sen. John Warner (allegedly a Republican) in 2014, the Associated Press said, "he praised his successor, also a centrist, for seeking bipartisan solutions." That's what the Post said in an editorial endorsing Mark Warner last year: he had "a nearly obsessive search for creative solutions and real flexibility in long negotiating sessions."

Then there's submerging the campaign news entirely: Warner's incredibly close race against Ed Gillespie race never drew an A-1 story in the Post during the last three months of the 2014 campaign, except for a dismissive story on how Gillespie was just building name ID for the next race.

Voters could complain about "truth in advertising," because that's what the press coverage of Kaine and Warner has been -- badly disguised positive commercials about their habitual moderation, pretending to be objective news coverage.

Warner was relatively moderate as governor, but has been a reliable leftist in Washington. People are beginning to see through him. Kaine was never anywhere close to moderate. Not sure how he gets away with it.

When they move on to Washington they have to take the pledge to support ALL the leftist groups that make up the Democrat party today which includes the feminist/Planned Parenthood/abortion agenda, the gay/lesbian/bisexual transgender agenda, the black radical agenda, the radical environmental/global warming agenda, the Code Pink antimilitary agenda and of course the ever increasing of the big government agenda. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MODERATE DEMOCRAT IN WASHINGTON TODAY!

A "moderate" Democrat is like a "moderate" Mohammadan. They haven't blown up anyone... yet. They're enablers of those that do the worst damage.

Mark “The Android” Warner and Tim “The Vulcan” Kaine are just two more items on the LONG list of atrocities committed against my beloved Commonwealth by the Yankees who have been moving here in droves fro the last two-and-a-half decades.

They left their self-soiled nests in the worker’s paradises of Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey, etc, to get away from all the “problems”. They resettled in Virginia, where without missing a beat, they promptly began crapping their leftist crap, thereby befouling Virginia’s once-beautiful nest. And they did it with so little self awareness that they have no inkling that THEY are the problem they left the north to avoid.

Manchin (who is a scumbag) is the only rat Senator even close to being a moderate.

Doctrinaire leftism is the rule.

Joe Donnelly of Indiana is more pro-life than Manchin, but Manchin is les liberal overall. Neither one is really a “moderate.”

There are a couple of moderate Democrats left in the Housë (and I mean that literally: Collin Peterson and Henry Cuellar are the only two that I would call “moderates,” with Peterson being a moderate-to-conservative), down from around a dozen just a few years ago.

Oh, but there is no difference between the two parties—I read that on FR.

Well I did say "close to" moderate. ;) Yeah, him and Donnelly, then who's next? The ACU's highest lifetime rating for a rat Senator is, by a nose, BILL Nelson, then Donnelly, then Manchin. Harry Reid is 4th, lol.

There are a couple of moderate Democrats left in the Housë (and I mean that literally:

And that's good I say, mostly because most of them have been replaced by Republicans.

Oh, but there is no difference between the two parties—I read that on FR.

I can't tell you how sick I am of reading that tripe. I wish we could send them to an alternate universe where Lizze Warren is President and Nancy Pelosi rules a House with 350 democrats and Dick Durbin a Senate with 80 democrats. They'd get down on their knees and beg to come back to the evil world of Boehner and McConnell.

I worked in NoVa for a couple of years and saw the invasion first hand.
It’s damnyankee central up there.
You can’t swing a cat without hitting one.

And they really did bring their bad manners and worse attitudes with them.

The only way the rest of the state has a chance is if each county has 1 electoral vote. The candidate who wins the county wins that electoral vote. Whoever wins the most counties wins the election.

That would work for Governor, Lt. Gov, Atty Gen and US Senate and Presidential elections.
Not sure if it would take an amendment to the state constitution or what.
Anything else leaves us down southers at a terrible disadvantage.

It was bad enough with just the yankees, add the invasion of the illegals and we have to change or die.

BTW, did you know that of the 50 cities and counties in the US with the highest muzzy population, Virginia has 22 of them?
That’s according to a link to the census from an article here on Free Republic from last year.

You said it, enablers is what they are. They are also camouflage for the radicals that really run the party.
