On Wednesday, Corrections Commissioner Marshall Fisher approved immediate suspension without pay of a correctional officer charged in a kidnapping, armed robbery and homicide that occurred in Jackson on Saturday morning.

Fisher learned after Andre Kennedy's arrest that Kennedy is one of 520 officers working at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.

Kennedy, 22, was hired in January 2014.

He is charged with capital murder, robbery and kidnapping in a case involving an Eastover homeowner.

His partner in crime was shot and killed in what police are calling justifiable homicide.

Hinds County Coroner identified the deceased suspect as 23-year-old Edwin Robinson of Jackson.

Police said around 6:30 a.m., Saturday, a man who lives nearby was leaving this house, putting some items in his vehicle, when he was approached by two armed men.

They forced him back into his home to get his wallet, then they forced him into his own Toyota truck to drive to an ATM and get money. They all ended up on Pinewood Drive, where the offenders planned to leave the victim.

We were told one of the kidnappers threatened to go back to the victim's house to harm his wife, and that's when the victim grabbed his own gun from the truck, and shot and killed one of the kidnappers.

Robinson's body was found lying in a patch of grass on Pinewood Drive.

Kennedy was arrested by Jackson police on Tuesday.

I heard Tom Gresham on his Gun Talk radio program on 5/26 talking about this case.

According to Tom Gresham, the Doctor had been loading guns into his truck to go shooting just before being accosted. He was a USPSA enthusiast.

After taking him to an ATM where he was forced to withdraw money, one of them mentioned going back to his house and mentioned some "evil intentions toward his wife." As the doctor was getting out of the vehcile he was abls to grab an unnoticed handgun from the driver's door of the truck and shot Eugene Robinson. Kennedy escaped but was later identified and captured.

You can listen to Tom tell the story at the 34:00 minute mark.

What a wonderful story.

Too bad he didn’t shoot the other SOB as well.

Which makes the story a little suspect. How do you shoot into a truck, killing one person and miss an occupant completely?

The first guy soaked up the bullet?

A bridge too far. The victim was willing to give everything the thugs wanted until they threatened his family. It is too bad he didn’t stop the other one right then, too.

Don’t ask me how but I know it every time, if only I could make work in the lottery.

It was Edwin Robinson.

Eugene Robinson is a columnist for the Washington Post.

Sorry about that. Just a little Freudian slip, I guess.

Eugene would blame Bush for the crime.

A good solid hit to the center of mass of the person he was aiming at would make it VERY likely that the round did not hit anyone else.

He was firing a handgun, not a .30-06 rifle.

Also, base don the lack of detail in the story, I wouldn't be do fast to assume the guy was firing IN to the truck.

In fact this: ...the victim grabbed his own gun from the truck, and shot and killed one of the kidnappers. Robinson's body was found lying in a patch of grass on Pinewood Drive., might lead one to conclude that the man was in his truck, firing at a kidnapper who was not in the truck.

It is not a good idea to threaten the family of a practiced handgun competitor.

It is possible that only one of them was armed; it could explain why he did not shoot the other perp.
