House Republicans called up Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf's tax-shifting plan on Monday, and the House shot it down by a unanimous vote.

Minority Leader Frank Dermody, D-Oakmont, called the vote on an amendment that contained Wolf's tax plan “a political stunt.”

“It does nothing to move this process forward,” Dermody said. “I would never ask (Democrats) to vote for a stunt.”

Wolf denounced the vote as “gamesmanship” and said it was an effort to “‘see if we can embarrass the administration.'”

I’m glad that the legislature has rejected Wolf’s howling Marxism.

Wolf wants to raise the income tax from 3 percent to 3.7 percent and the sales tax from 6 percent to 6.6 percent. He would expand the sales tax base to include a host of items such as diapers, newspapers, funeral services, legal work, textbooks, college room and board, and nonprescription drugs, Adolph said.

how does this help the middle class as***le? real estate taxes are local how is going to lower those? what a dufus.

The Keystone State has a pension mess that will implode soon. This will not be fun to watch.

So actually voting on a proposed tax increase is a political stunt?

I'm thinking it will be “fun” to watch.

All the pension messes of all the unionized “civil servants” are going to be interesting.

House Republicans called up Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf's tax-shifting plan on Monday, and the House shot it down by a unanimous vote.

Are they all Republicans or something?

Wolf is a stunt.

I remember his goof ball television ad,
Talking to little kids about taxes.

Wolf’s best stunt, using little kids as props.

They sent the governors proposed budget with the tax increases to the floor for a vote as submitted and he faults them for it.It was beautiful that all the democrats voted against it as well.

There will be a hurt put on many people, just as happens when any investment scam implodes.

Wolf’s plan would have reduced school property taxes in Harrisburg to ZERO, with reductions in the rest of the state ranging from 55% down to no reduction, depending on the county and school district...

While Harrisburg folks may be upset today, I rejoice that 100% of the house said no to such a blatant giveaway to his favored cities.

He is a moron. If you expand the sales tax base to include more items then you LOWER the overall rate.

Dems are addicted to OPM.

True.

And it is also true that the imploding scam was a government employee construct, so logically it follows that the government employees who thought they were safe in constructing and participating in the scam, are going to get a major push back from those they scammed.

Isn’t that justice?

Can’t squeeze blood from a turnip. I think the important thing is not to federalize the problem. If a state over promised, let them deal with it. I don’t want to be underwriting any other generous state pensions. Also, I like the option of moving away when I have the chance, likely to NH which has less problems of this sort...though still is by no means out of the woods.
