See pages 123 - 131

Page 126 seems to be of interest, at the part under "Texas Code of Criminal Procedure".

Judge Roy Bean would have been fairer.

Yep. If that jurisdiction info in criminal matters is correct, then the DA has as much explaining to do as the JoP.

I have a sense that the jurisdiction parameters in Texas law are "flexible," and the stated jurisdiction of the JP is routinely extended. With few exceptions, it is highly unlikely that the members of the court system (DA, all the various courts in the state) would step on the toes of their brethren. As for exceptions, the JPs are forbidden to take on divorce cases; and I bet they abide by that restriction.

But this is a conspiracy to commit murder rap, certainly above the level of "punishable by fine only," and after a few weeks, you'd think a significant number of these cases would, if the jurisdiction was "clearly improper under Texas precedent," have been presented to other Texas courts, by now.

Just saying, what is "written law," and what is "the law on the ground" can be entirely different things. Written law is infinitely flexible at the whim of the court hearing the case.

I've seen situations (not in Texas) where a trusted JoP can serve as an ad-hoc judge in the county District/Superior/whatever Court. It wouldn't surprise me to find that this guy was used in that way as a weekend "Duty Judge", responsible for signing the DA's warrants and setting bail for arrestees (when the sitting judges of that county are all out-of-pocket).

If that's the case, though, then this JoP wasn't acting as a JoP, but in a different capacity.

Is there ANY indication of the DA being pro-active to get this sorted out?

Being from Texas, I have heard stories about bad actors in the Bandidos, Mongols, and Hell’s Angels clubs. Some INDEPENDENTLY sell and do drugs and that is a mixture for trouble, especially for druggies who do business with the dealers. I know an addict who was in a Christian based ten step program, fell off the wagon, and got mixed up with a Bandido drug dealer. He was hurt pretty badly but survived.

They are not all one thing and often independent people and even club members just want to ride and join these clubs to plan and go for outings on their Harleys.

There is no justice in wide berth sweeps of motorcycle people at a location. It would be like moving in on a tea party protest and arresting everyone for terrorism. We do not honor the concept of guilt by association or suspicion. If there are bad actors, the cops should be targeting them.

By the way. I don’t see them doing these kind of murderous sweeps on real Black and Hispanic gangs who really are criminals and belong to criminal organizations.

I think these guys were targeted because they are mostly white and many are veterans.

“Spoken like a true statist. I guess you and some others don’t realize that the law was not made for professionals.”

Yeah, well it wasn’t intended for morons either. I take it that you think this “citizen judge” is a Mensa dispensing justice to all.

“If the bouncer had educated himself on basic principles related to the setting of bonds and upheld the concept of an independent judiciary, he’s more fit for the job than the “good old boy” who has the job.”

Touche!!
